BBÖ 729
The BBÖ 729 was a class of 26 Austrian 4-6-4T locomotives designed to haul fast passenger trains for the Federal Railway of Austria (''Bundesbahnen Österreichs'', BBÖ). History .After the First World War, with a smaller Austria, the BBÖ wanted to use tank locomotives for express trains in order to save the fees for turning locomotives on foreign turntables for services to border countries. However, the Südbahn 629 series was too weak for these tasks and their fuel and water capacities were too small, so that they had to be supplemented at great expense abroad. To remedy this, the head of the BBÖ construction department, Alexander Lehner, together with the Lokomotivfabrik Floridsdorf, designed a 2′C2′ h2t (4-6-4, superheated 2-cylinder, tank) locomotive, designated 729 series. Ampflwang
Ampflwang im Hausruckwald is a municipality in the district of Vöcklabruck in the Austrian state of Upper Austria. History The village was first mentioned in documents in 1169 and was a farming settlement community until the discovery of lignite around 1766. In 1809, Ampflwang, like the rest of the Hausruckviertel, fell to Bavaria during the Napoleonic Wars, where it remained until 1814. As lignite, and with it the Wolfsegg-Traunthaler-Kohlenwerks AG (WTK), which operated coal mining in the community, became more and more important, the number of inhabitants rose to over 2,000 after World War I. Austrian Society For Railway History
The Austrian Society for Railway History ( or ÖGEG) is an Austrian society that was formed from a group of railway fans, who got together around 1971 in order to look after working steam locomotives at the ÖBB depot of Linz. History The society was founded in 1974 in Linz, with the aim of taking into its ownership one of the steam locomotives that it had cared for, as well as preserving the closed railway line, the '' Florianerbahn'', as a heritage railway. In the following years the ÖGEG acquired several retired ÖBB locomotives. The first one to run again under its own power on ÖBB lines was locomotive ÖBB 93.1455 in 1978. A Giesl ejector is a suction draught system for steam locomotives that works on the same principle as a Injector, feedwater injector. This ejector (German: , or ) was invented in 1951 by the Austria, Austrian engineer, Dr. Adolph Giesl-Gieslingen. The Giesl ejector ensures improved suction draught and a correspondingly better use of energy.
