BBC South East
BBC South East is the BBC English region serving Kent, East Sussex, most parts of West Sussex and southern parts of Surrey. The BBC region was created in September 2001 by the joining of the Heathfield transmitter (formerly part of the BBC South region) with the Bluebell Hill and Dover transmitters (from the then BBC London and South East region) to form a new regional TV service. Unlike ITV Meridian (East), it does not serve southern Essex (received from a Bluebell Hill overlap), this area being part of the BBC London region instead. Services Television BBC South East's television output consists of the flagship regional news service '' South East Today'' and its main programme is broadcast weeknights at 6:30 pm, with short bulletins throughout the day and during the weekend. Nationwide (TV Programme)
} ''Nationwide'' was a BBC current affairs television programme which ran from 9 September 1969 until 5 August 1983. Originally broadcast on BBC 1 from Tuesday to Thursday, and then each weekday from 1972, it followed the early evening news, and included the regional opt-out news programmes. Outline It followed a magazine format, combining regional news, political analysis and discussion with consumer affairs, light entertainment and sports reporting. It began on 9 September 1969, running between Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00pm, before being extended to five days a week in 1972. From 1976 until 1981, the start time was 5:55pm. ''Newsroom South East'' was the BBC's regional news programme aired on BBC One in the South East. It was launched on Tuesday 28 March 1989 as the successor to ''London Plus'', the South East's previous news programme. In 1992, ''South Today'' replaced Newsroom South East in the Heathfield coverage area (which subsequently switched to ''South East Today'' in 2001). In October 2000, the Oxford coverage area also broke away from Newsroom South East, in favour of joining ''South Today'' with opt-out privileges. In September 2001, ''South East Today'' launched as a replacement for Newsroom South East in the Bluebell Hill and Dover coverage areas, leaving the Crystal Palace coverage area alone in its broadcast of Newsroom South East for a month, before being replaced by the new '' BBC London News'' in October 2001, thereby bringing Newsroom South East to an end. ''London Plus'' was the name of the BBC's regional news programme for southeastern England. Launched on Monday 3 September 1984, the programme represented the BBC's attempt to boost regional news service for the South East. Prior to the launch of ''London Plus'', BBC South East did not have its own dedicated team of presenting staff and the teatime regional news programme for the South East was delivered by presenters of the main national programme (first '' Nationwide'', then '' Sixty Minutes'') although since the start of 1982 the teatime programme had been called ''Nationwide – South East at Six''. Ceefax (, punning on "seeing facts") was the world's first teletext information service and a forerunner to the current BBC Red Button service. BBC Red Button is a brand used for digital interactive television services provided by the BBC, and broadcast in the United Kingdom. The services replaced Ceefax, the BBC's analogue teletext service. BBC Red Button's text services were due to close on 30 January 2020, but the switch off was suspended on 29 January 2020 following protests. History and branding The service was launched on 23 September 1999 as BBC Text. It was relaunched in November 2001 under the BBCi brand and operated under this name until late 2008, when it was rebranded as BBC Red Button. The "red button" name refers to the common interface on remote controls for digital televisions and set-top boxes, a red push-button that launches digital teletext services. ''BBC London News'' (referred to onscreen as ''BBC London'') is the BBC's regional television news programme for Greater London and its surrounding areas. Its local competitor is '' ITV News London'', which is produced by ITN for ITV London.
