B. Sudarshan Reddy
B. Sudarshan Reddy (born 8 July 1946) is a former judge of the Supreme Court of India and the first Lokayukta of Goa. Early life Reddy was born in 1946 at Akula Mylaram Village, erstwhile Ibrahimpatnam Taluq, Ranga Reddy district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh in an agricultural family. He studied in Hyderabad and passed law from Osmania University in 1971. Career He started practice on Civil and constitutional matters under K. Pratap Reddy, Senior Advocate of Andhra Pradesh High Court. On 8 August 1988 Reddy was appointed as Government Pleader in the High Court and became the Additional Standing Counsel for Central Government. He was elected as President, Andhra Pradesh High Court Advocates Association in 1993. He was also served as Legal Advisor of Osmania University. Lokayukta
The Lokayukta (also Lok Ayukta; ''lokāyukta'', "civil commissioner''"'') is an Indian Parliamentary Ombudsman who may be appointed for each of the State Governments of India. The role was introduced by the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act of 2013 to quickly address the working of the government or its administration (public servants). Once appointed, a Lokayukta cannot be dismissed or transferred by the government, and can only be removed by passing an impeachment motion by the state assembly. The Lokayukta mainly publicizes corruption among politicians and government officials. Many acts of the Lokayukta have resulted in criminal or other consequences for those charged. An ombudsman ( , also ) is a government employee who investigates and tries to resolve complaints, usually through recommendations (binding or not) or mediation. They are usually appointed by the government or by parliament (often with a significant degree of independence). The Goa Lokayukta is the ombudsman institution of the Indian state of Goa. The Lokayukta is an anti-corruption ombudsman existing in several states of India. Justice (Retired) Ambadas Joshi is the Lokayukta of Goa since 7 May 2021. Background In 1966, a report by the Administrative Reforms Commission headed by Morarji Desai recommended the setting up of Lokpal at the federal level and Lokayukta in the states, for the redressal of citizen's grievances. Goa had its first anti-corruption commission under the Goa Public Men's Corruption (Inquiries and Investigation) Act, 1988.
