B. M. Sundaravadanan
B. M. Sundaravadanan was an Indian surgeon, educationalist and a philanthropist from Madras. He was an alumnus of the Madras Medical College and the First Honorary surgeon of Madras Medical College. He also served as the chairman of the Tamil Nadu Medical Council. Sundaravadanan was one of the first medical practitioners to start their hospital in EVR Periyar Salai, which is now regarded as the "Med street" of Chennai. Sundaravadanan was born in a Thuluva Vellala Mudaliar family of Madras. MM road (Madhavaraya Mudaliar Road) in Frazer town of Bangalore City is named after his father Madhavaraya Mudaliar. The Madras Presidency or Madras Province, officially called the Presidency of Fort St. George until 1937, was an administrative subdivision (province) of British India and later the Dominion of India. At its greatest extent, the presidency included most of southern India, including all of present-day Andhra Pradesh, almost all of Tamil Nadu and parts of Kerala, Karnataka, Odisha and Telangana in the modern day. Madras Medical College
Madras Medical College (MMC) is a public medical college located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Established in 1835, it is one of the oldest medical colleges in India, as well as in Asia. History The Government General Hospital was established on 16 November 1647 to treat soldiers of the British East India Company. Madras Medical College was established on 2 February 1835. Mary Scharlieb graduated from Madras Medical College in 1878. In 1996, when the metropolis of Madras was renamed as Chennai, the name of the college also changed to Chennai Medical College. It was later re-renamed back to the Madras Medical College since the college was known worldwide by the older name. EVR Periyar Salai (SHU 86)(EVR High Road), earlier known as Poonamallee High Road ( NH 48) and originally the Grand Western Trunk Road, is an arterial road in Chennai, India. It is the longest road in Chennai. Running from east to west, the road starts at Muthuswamy Bridge near Madras Medical College at Park Town and ends near Maduravoyal Junction via Kilpauk, Aminjikarai, Anna Nagar Arch, Arumbakkam, Koyambedu. Thuluva Vellala
Thuluva Vellalar, also known as Agamudi Mudaliar or Arcot Mudaliars, is a caste found in northern Tamil Nadu, southern Andhra Pradesh and southern Karnataka. They were an elite and dominant land-owning community. Etymology The earliest occurrence of the term Velaalar (வேளாளர்) in Sangam literature is found in Paripadal, where it is used in the sense of a landowner. Shenoy Nagar
Shenoy Nagar is a neighbourhood in Chennai, India and is a part of the Greater Anna Nagar Region. It is surrounded by Anna Nagar East in the North also Kilpauk in the North and East, Chetpet in its very rare South-East end, Aminjikarai in the South, Arumbakkam in the South-West and Anna Nagar in the North-West barely. Sivapatham Vittal
Sivapatham Vittal (30 August 1941 – 26 November 2024) was an Indian surgical endocrinologist, considered by many as the Father of Surgical Endocrinology in India. The Government of India honored Vittal in 2011, with the fourth highest civilian award of Padma Shri. Life and career Sivapatham Vittal was born in Madras, Madras Province, British India on 30 August 1941. He graduated in medicine from Madras Medical College from where he also obtained his post graduate degree.
