B.League
The B.League is a men's professional basketball league in Japan. The league is operated by the Japan Professional Basketball League and was formed as a result of a merger between the National Basketball League that was operated by the FIBA-affiliated Japan Basketball Association and the independently operated bj league. The merger had been mandated by FIBA as a condition to Japan having its membership resumed following suspension in November 2014. The league began play in September 2016. History The Japan Basketball Association was formed in 1930 and has operated Japan's top basketball leagues under various names since 1967. Throughout the history of the association, teams have been affiliated with large corporations and players have been employed by their respective owner company rather than competing as professional basketball players. 2024–25 B1 League Season
The 2024–25 B1 League season was the ninth season of the B1 League, the top Japanese professional basketball league, since its establishment in 2015. The regular season began on 5 October 2024. The Hiroshima Dragonflies were the defending champions, having won their first B1 League title after defeating the Ryukyu Golden Kings in the 2024 finals. Utsunomiya Brex won the title, after defeating the Ryukyu Golden Kings in three games in the finals. As champions, they qualified for the 2025 Basketball Champions League Asia and the 2025–26 East Asia Super League. D. J. Newbill stood out individually this season, winning both the season MVP and finals MVP awards. East Asia Super League
The East Asia Super League (EASL) is an international basketball league featuring clubs from Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Taiwan (Chinese Taipei), Hong Kong, and Macau. From 2017 to 2019, four pre-season tournaments (the Super 8 and the Terrific 12) were organized by EASL, featuring clubs from selected professional basketball leagues in the region. With official backing from FIBA Asia, EASL has made a transition towards a full-fledged league. The first such season commenced in 2023 and feature eight teams. Utsunomiya Brex is a Japanese professional basketball team based in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. After winning the JBL 2 in 2008, the team played in the National Basketball League (Japan), National Basketball League. Previous team names include: Tochigi Brex and Link Tochigi Brex.
