Aïn Defla Province
Aïn Defla (, is a wilaya (''province'') in northern Algeria. It is located to the southwest of Algiers, the capital. Localities in Ain Delfa include Aïn Defla, Miliana, El Attaf, Djelida and Djendel. History The province was created from Chlef Province in 1984. Administrative divisions It is made up of 14 districts and 36 municipalities. Provinces Of Algeria
Algeria, as of 2024, is divided into 58 wilaya, wilayas (province, provinces). Prior to December 18, 2019, there were 48 provinces. The 58 provinces are divided into 1,541 baladiyahs (Municipalities of Algeria, municipalities). The name of a province is always that of its capital city. According to the Algerian constitution, a wilaya is a territorial collectivity enjoying economic and diplomatic freedom, the APW, or ''Popular Provincial Parliament/Provincial Popular Parliament'' (the ''Assemblée Populaire Wilayale'', in French) is the political entity governing a province, directed by the Wali (administrative title), ''Wali'' (Governor), who is chosen by the Algerian President to handle the APW's decisions, the APW has also a president, who is elected by the members of the APW, which Algerians elect. Djendel
Djendel (formerly ''Lavigerie'' during the period of French colonization) is a commune in the Aïn Defla wilaya in northern Algeria, located 110 km southwest of Algiers, 40 km east of Aïn Defla, and 30 km southwest of Médéa. History Formerly a mixed commune ('' commune mixte'' r/sup> - an area where Europeans were present though in very small numbers) in the Algiers ''département'' of French Algeria, created on 25 August 1880, Djendel incorporated the '' douars'' (tribal territories) of Djendel, Ghribs, and Oued-Telbenet. On 16 December 1905 Djendel absorbed some of the dissolved mixed commune of Hammam Righa. In 1956, it was promoted by decree from a mixed commune to a commune according to the Law of 1884 and was absorbed into the ''département'' of Orléansville. Aïn Lechiakh District
Ain Lechiakh is a town located in the province (Wilaya) of Ain Defla, Algeria in North Africa. It is approximately southwest of Algiers. This town was founded in 1902 and was named Voltaire until 1962 the year of independence. From the geographic perspective, Ain Lechiakh is bounded by Oued Chorfa to the east, Djendel up north and Oued el Djemaa to the west, and on the southern side we find a stretch of mountains reaching Kasr El Boukhari. The town is about 40 km from the Mediterranean Sea as the crow flies. Its population was about 14,000 people at the latest census. Many of its inhabitants rely on agriculture and/or small businesses as sources of living; however; the newer generation seems to drift away from such a practice and lean towards professional careers.
