Azzam Azzam
Azzam Azzam ( ar, عزام عزام, Levantine Arabic: , he, עזאם עזאם; born 1962) is an Israeli Druze who was convicted in Egypt of spying for Israel, and jailed for eight years. He maintained his innocence throughout the ordeal. Arrest and trial Azzam is from the town of Maghar, Israel. A mechanic by training, he worked for Tefron, an Israeli textile company. As part of his work for Tefron, he made trips to Egypt to visit local factories which were subcontractors of the company. During one such visit in November 1996, he was arrested in Cairo by Egyptian security services. His arrest was kept secret for several days. It was only after it was noted in Israel that his whereabouts were unknown, and the Israeli Foreign Ministry and an official Israeli mission to an economic conference in Cairo pressed the issue with the Egyptian government that his arrest was made known. Ariel Sharon (; ; ; also known by his diminutive Arik, , born Ariel Scheinermann, ; 26 February 1928 – 11 January 2014) was an Israeli general and politician who served as the 11th Prime Minister of Israel from March 2001 until April 2006. Naama Issachar Affair
In April 2019 in Sheremetyevo International Airport, Russian authorities arrested Israeli-American Naama Issachar ( he, נעמה יששכר), a transit passenger flying from India to Israel, for alleged drug smuggling after some 10 grams of marijuana or hashish were found in her bag during a stopover in Moscow. On 11 October 2019 a Russian court sentenced her to seven and a half years in prison on drug possession and smuggling charges. Issachar's family and Israeli officials said that Russia told them she would be released if Aleksey Burkov (russian: Алексей Бурков), a Russian national pending extradition from Israel to the United States on suspicion of committing cyber crimes, was released to Russia. The Ilan Grapel affair was an alleged Israeli espionage incident in Egypt involving dual U.S.-Israeli citizen Ilan Grapel. On 12 June 2011, Egyptian authorities arrested Grapel on charges of fomenting unrest in Egypt as a Mossad agent in the wake of the 2011 Egyptian revolution. While Israel and Grapel's friends and family firmly rejected the charges, the Egyptian government provided evidence to support its claim. Ouda Tarabin ( ar, عودة ترابين, he, עודה תראבין; born in 1981) is an Israeli Bedouin who was imprisoned in Egypt for 15 years on suspicion of spying for Israel after illegally crossing the Israeli-Egyptian border.
