Bihar ( ) is a states and union territories of India, state in Eastern India. The Indian National Congress (U) was a breakaway fraction of the Indira Gandhi-led Congress (I), formed in July 1979 by D. Devaraj Urs, the then Chief Minister of Karnataka. Urs' explanation of the split was the return of Indira's son Sanjay Gandhi into the party fold. Urs took with him many legislators from Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra and Goa including future Union Ministers and Chief Ministers, Yashwantrao Chavan, Dev Kant Baruah, Kasu Brahmananda Reddy, A.K. Muhammad Shafi Daudi
Muhammad Shafi Daudi (27 October 1875 – 25 January 1949) was an Indian Muslim scholar and a politician, who was a member of the Central Legislative Assembly from 1924 to 1935. Early life and education Muhammad Shafi Daudi was born in Daudnagar village of Bihar in 25 October 1875 to Sheikh Mohammad Hasan. He studied in various Madrassa including Darul Uloom Deoband. Personal life Muhammad Shadi Daudi was married to Zubaida Daudi, a woman freedom fighter who joined Non-cooperation movement. They had 9 children together. Career Daudi joined Indian National Congress in 1920 and also joined Swaraj Party in 1923. Muzaffarpur district had become an important centre of the Non-Cooperation Movement. Sir Syed Ali Imam, KCSI (11 February 1869 – 31 October 1932), also known as Sir Saiyid Ali Imam, was an Indian Barrister and freedom fighter who was the first Indian to represent India at the round table of 1929. He served as Prime Minister of Hyderabad State from 1919 to 1922. He was one of the founders of Modern Bihar. Biography Syed Ali Imam was born on 11 February 1869, in karai parsari village, near Fatuha, Bihar. The son of Nawab Syed Imdad Imam Bin Syed Wahiduddin Khan Bahadur and the brother of Syed Hasan Imam. In 1887, he went to London to study law and was called to the English bar by the Middle Temple. He returned to India in 1890. He was a member of the Bihar District Board. In 1909, he was appointed to the Bengal Legislative Council. In 1917, Imam was appointed a Justice of the Patna High Court. The Rajya Sabha (meaning the "Council of States") is the upper house of the Parliament of India. Bihar state elects 16 members since the 2002 biennial elections. Before, Bihar State has elected 21 seats since April 1952 and 22 seats since 1956, and 16 members after the Bihar Reorganisation Act 2000 and the creation of the new Jharkhand state on 15 November 2000. They are elected indirectly by the State Legislators of Bihar State. Members are elected for six years and 1/3 of members are retired after every two years. The number of seats allocated to the party is determined by the number of seats a party possesses during nomination and the party nominates a member to be voted on.
