Azerbaijan–China Relations
Diplomatic relations between the Azerbaijan, Republic of Azerbaijan and the China, People's Republic of China were established on April 2, 1992. The relations between the two countries have developed smoothly and high-level exchanges have been close. The PRC embassy in Baku openly commends Azerbaijan for supporting its stance on the political status of Taiwan, Tibetan sovereignty debate, Tibet's sovereignty, Xinjiang conflict, the conflict in Xinjiang, and the suppression of Persecution of Falun Gong, Falun Gong. All political forces have actively advocated strengthening friendly cooperation with China. China was one of the first countries to recognize independence, and has supported Azerbaijan on the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh. Meng Jianzhu (; born July 1947) is a retired Chinese politician best known for his term as the Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party between 2012 and 2017.
