Azerbaijan–Belarus Relations
Relations between Azerbaijan and Belarus are at very high level that Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko describes Azerbaijan as a "saver" of independence and sovereignty of Belarus and adds that "there's not anything close" in Azerbaijani-Belarusian relations. Both countries were part of the Russian Empire until 1918 and before 1991, they were part of the Soviet Union. Azerbaijan has an embassy in Minsk and Belarus has an embassy in Baku. Both countries are full members of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Commonwealth of Independent States, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Heydar Aliyev Foundation
The Heydar Aliyev Foundation () is a private foundation headed by Azerbaijan's First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. The foundation is named after Azerbaijan's former president, Heydar Aliyev – the father of the incumbent president Ilham Aliyev. The foundation has been criticized for not being transparent about its finances, and for being a vehicle of corruption. Gunesh Abasova
Gunesh Alisafayevna Abasova (; , ''Güneš Alisafaěwna Abasava''; born 1979), often known simply as Gunesh, is a Belarusian-Azerbaijani singer-songwriter. She represented Belarus in the Turkvision Song Contest 2013 with the song "". Early life Abasova was born in Baranavichy in 1979. She is fluent in Turkish. Career In 2004, Abasova collaborated with Belarusian band Krambambula for their album ''Radio Krambambula 0.33 FM'' as a vocalist. She recorded two songs in Azerbaijani for the album. Azerbaijanis (; , ), Azeris (, ), or Azerbaijani Turks (, ) are a Turkic ethnic group living mainly in the Azerbaijan region of northwestern Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan. They are predominantly Shia Muslims. They comprise the largest ethnic group in the Republic of Azerbaijan and the second-largest ethnic group in neighboring Iran and Georgia. Yosef Shagal
Yosef Shagal (; born 25 March 1949) is an Israeli politician and former journalist, of Azerbaijani Jewish origin. He served as a member of the Knesset for the Russian-immigrant dominated Yisrael Beiteinu between 2006 and 2009. From 2012 until 2015, he was the ambassador of Israel to Belarus. Background Born in Baku in the Soviet Union (today in Azerbaijan) of Mountain Jewish heritage, Shagal studied history at university. After gaining a BA, he began working as a journalist. He made aliyah to Israel in 1990, and worked as a reporter for Israel Plus, the country's Russian language station.
