Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University (''Azerbaijani language, Azerbaijani: Azərbaycan Dövlət Pedaqoji Universiteti)'' or short ASPU - public university specializing in the training of pedagogical staff and professionals across a diverse range of fields. History The Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University was established in 1921 under Decree No. 66, ''On the Organization of the Higher Pedagogical Institute of Men,'' dated August 26, 1921, and signed by the Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars of Azerbaijan, Nariman Narimanov. Its first graduation was in 1924 with 28 graduates. In 1972, the Institute was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, Order of the Red Banner of Labor. Before its foundation, an Organizing Committee (Preparatory Commission) was created for the establishment of the institute in late 1920. ''Times Higher Education'' (''THE''), formerly ''The Times Higher Education Supplement'' (''The THES''), is a British magazine reporting specifically on news and issues related to higher education. Ownership TPG Capital acquired TSL Education from Charterhouse in a £400 million deal in July 2013 and rebranded TSL Education, of which ''Times Higher Education'' was a part, as TES Global. Webometrics Ranking Of World Universities
The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, also known as Ranking Web of Universities, is a ranking system for the world's universities based on a composite indicator that takes into account both the volume of the Web content (number of web pages and files) and the visibility and impact of these web publications according to the number of external inlinks (site citations) they received. The ranking is published by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group of the Spanish National Research Council located in Madrid. The aim of the ranking is to improve the presence of the academic and research institutions on the Web and to promote the open access publication of scientific results. The ranking started in 2004 and is updated every January and July. As of 2021 it provides Web indicators for more than 31,000 universities worldwide. UI GreenMetric
The UI GreenMetric is an annual international ranking of the sustainability performance of universities. Universities are given a score reflecting their efforts in reducing the ecological footprint of the university and sustainability education and research. The ranking was launched in 2010 by the University of Indonesia to promote sustainability in higher education institutions and allow comparisons between them. Since then, the number of participants has grown and the methodology has been refined based on feedback from participating universities. Methodology and criteria Universities are asked annually between May and October to participate by filling a survey with questions about their sustainability performance. Many questions in this survey also demand uploading evidence documents to avoid cheating. The results are published in December. Baku State University
Baku State University (BSU) (BDU; ) is a public university located in Baku, Azerbaijan. Established on 1 September 1919 by the Parliament of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the university started with faculties of history and philology, physics and mathematics, and law and medicine, with an initial enrollment of 1094. The first rector of BSU was V.I.Razumovsky, a former professor of surgery at Kazan University. In 1930, the government of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic ordered the university shut down in accordance with a reorganization of higher education, and the university was replaced with the Supreme Pedagogical Institute. However, in 1934 the university was reestablished again and continued to work through the difficult years of World War II experiencing a shortage of faculty members. Abdulla Shaig
Abdulla Shaig () (25 February 1881, Tbilisi – 24 July 1959, Baku), born Abdulla Mustafa oglu Talibzadeh, was an Azerbaijani writer. Early life and education Shaig was born to Marneuli-native Azerbaijani parents, Mustafa Talibzadeh and Mehri Bayramli. His father was an akhoond at the Caucasus Muslim Clerical Board, who taught Islamic law, Persian and Arabic at a secondary school in Tbilisi (then Tiflis). In 1883, due to a strained relationship with her husband, Shaig's mother moved with her two sons and a daughter to Khorasan (Iran), where Abdulla Shaig later attended a school. As a teenager, he wrote ghazals and translated a number of pieces from the Russian literature into Persian. In 1901, at the age of 20, he permanently settled in Baku and passed an examination at the First Alexandrian Gymnasium becoming a certified teacher.
