Azawad Liberation Front
The Azawad Liberation Front (in Tuareg: ⵜⴰⴶⴰⵉⵜ ⵢⵏ ⵢⵙⵢⵍⵢⵍⵓ ⴰⵣⴰⵓⴰⴷ; in Arabic: جبهة تحرير أزواد); in French: Front de libération de l'Azawad) or FLA is a political and military organization in northern Mali founded on November 30, 2024. The organization was formed after the dissolution of the Strategic Framework for the Defense of the People of Azawad, and included the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA), the High Council for the Unity of Azawad (HCUA), and part of the Arab Movement of Azawad (MAA) and the Imghad Tuareg Self-Defense Group and Allies (GATIA). Bilal Ag Acherif
Bilal Ag Acherif (; born 1977), last name alternatively spelled Cherif, is the Secretary-General of the National Movement for the Liberation of Azawad (MNLA) in Mali. He was president of a briefly independent breakaway state of Azawad from April to July 2012, before the Malian Armed Forces recaptured many cities and Azawad collapsed. Biography Pre-presidency He was born in the Kidal Region of Mali in 1977. He went to Libya in 1993 to study political science, returning to Mali in 2010. Interim presidency On 6 April 2012, he posted a statement to its website in which he declared the independence of Azawad from Mali. The Strategic Framework for the Defense of the People of Azawad (; CSP-DPA) was a coalition of political and military movements in northern Mali that was formed on 6 May 2021, as an alliance of the Coordination of Azawad Movements (CMA) and Platform. In September 2023, Platform left the CSP-PSD due to the CMA's war with the Malian government. In April 2024, the CSP-DPA was renamed from the Permanent Strategic Framework for Peace, Security, and Development (; CSP-PSD). Tinzaouaten (var. Tinzawatene and Tin-Zaouatene; ) is a Saharan rural commune in the far northeast of Mali on the Algerian border. Geography The commune is in the Abeïbara Cercle of the Kidal Region. It included a stop on a trans-Saharan trade route and a military post on the frontier under the French colonial regime.
