Ayub Kheyl
Ayub Kheyl ( fa, أيوب خيل) (Ab Khail) is a small village 11 km (7 miles) outside Khost, Afghanistan. It was the site on July 27, 2002, of a firefight by US soldiers, assisted by Afghan militia, against militants in the village. After the fight, the Americans captured the wounded 15-year-old Omar Khadr, who they learned was a Canadian citizen. He was among the youngest persons detained at Guantanamo Bay detention camp and the last Western citizen held there. The village was known among the Afghanis for its Pashtun residents, who were conservative and considered closely tied to the Taliban. Khost, Afghanistan
Khōst ( ps, خوست) is the capital of Khost Province in Afghanistan. It is the largest city in the southeastern part of the country, and also the largest in the region of Loya Paktia. To the south and east of Khost lie Waziristan and Kurram in Pakistan. Khost is the home of Shaikh Zayed University. Khost Airport serves the city as well as the larger region surrounding the city. On 15 August 2021, Khost was seized by Taliban fighters, becoming the twenty-eighth provincial capital to be captured by the Taliban as part of the wider 2021 Taliban offensive. Geography Khost is located about 150 kilometres south of Kabul. Khost lies on a plateau of minimally altitude that extends to the East for about until the Pakistan border. Omar Khadr
Omar Ahmed Said Khadr ( ar, عمر أحمد سعيد خضر; born September 19, 1986) is a Canadian citizen who at the age of 15 was detained by the United States at Guantanamo Bay for ten years, during which he pleaded guilty to the murder of U.S. Army Sergeant 1st Class Christopher Speer and other charges. He later appealed his conviction, claiming that he falsely pleaded guilty so that he could return to Canada where he remained in custody for three additional years. Khadr sued the Canadian government for infringing his rights under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms; this lawsuit was settled in 2017 with a CA$10.5 million payment and an apology by the federal government. Born in Canada, Khadr was taken to Afghanistan by his father, who was affiliated with Al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations. The Guantanamo Bay detention camp ( es, Centro de detención de la bahía de Guantánamo) is a United States military prison located within Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, also referred to as Guantánamo, GTMO, and Gitmo (), on the coast of Guantánamo Bay in Cuba. Khost Province
Khost (Pashto/ Dari: ) is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan, located in the southeastern part of the country. Khost consists of thirteen districts and the city of Khost serves as the capital of the province.
