Ayr Parkhouse F.C.
Ayr Parkhouse Football Club were a football club from the town of Ayr in Scotland. The club was a member of the Scottish Football League until 1910, when they merged with neighbours Ayr to form Ayr United. History Ayr Parkhouse were formed in 1886 and took their name from the Parkhouse farmhouse where the club's players trained, William Frew, a centre-forward for Parkhouse, was actually the son of the farmer who owned it. They initially played their home games at Ballantine Drive, before moving to the Ayr Racecourse ground, now known as the Old Racecourse. In 1888 Ayr vacated the better developed Beresford Park, and Ayr Parkhouse moved in, where they played for the remainder of their existence, although altering the ground since moving in, . Robert Capperauld
Robert Capperauld (died 14 July 1915) was a Scottish professional footballer who made one appearance as a goalkeeper in the Scottish League for Ayr. Personal life Capperauld served as a private in the Royal Scots Fusiliers during the First World War and died of a shrapnel wound to the right shoulder at a casualty clearing station on 'W' Beach, Cape Helles, on 14 July 1915. John Cameron (footballer, Born 1872)
John Cameron (13 April 1872 – 20 April 1935) was a Scottish footballer and manager. He played as a forward for Queen's Park, Everton and Scotland and was noted as an effective goal-maker and goalscorer. In 1899 he became player-manager at Tottenham Hotspur and guided them to victory in the 1901 FA Cup. As a result, they became the only club outside the English Football League to win the competition. In 1898 he became the first secretary of the Association Footballers' Union, which was the ill-fated fore-runner of the Professional Footballers' Association. He later coached Dresdner SC and during the First World War he was interned at Ruhleben, a civilian detention camp in Germany. After the war he coached Ayr United for one season and then became a football journalist, author and publisher. He had previously worked as a columnist for various newspapers before the war. Alex Bell
Alexander Bell (20 October 1882 – 30 November 1934) was a footballer who played as a wing half. His professional career was mostly spent in England, where he won trophies with Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers. Born in South Africa, he was largely raised in Scotland and made one appearance for the Scottish national team. Club career Born in Cape Town, Cape Colony, to Scottish parents, Bell began his professional football career as a centre-forward with various clubs in Ayr, including Ayr Spring Vale, Ayr Westerlea and Ayr Parkhouse. While with Ayr Parkhouse (then still to join the Scottish Football League), Bell was spotted by former Newton Heath half-back Will Davidson, who reported his findings back to Manchester United. Ayrshire Cup
The Ayrshire Cup was an annual association football regional competition in Scotland. The cup competition was a knockout tournament between football clubs in the historic county of Ayrshire. The Ayrshire Cup was first held in 1877–78, with the first winners being Mauchline. The competition was most recently held in the 1997–98 season, when it was won by Kilmarnock. Although the Cup has not been competed for since, discussions have taken place between all the major participating clubs ( Ayr United, Girvan and Kilmarnock) who have stated that they would welcome the return of the Ayrshire Cup. The Scottish Football Combination was a football league football structure set up in Scotland for clubs outside the Scottish Football League and the reserves (or A sides) of some of the League members. History 1896–1911 The competition was formed on 7 July 1896, by sides from various other competitions, including the Scottish Football Alliance and the Midland League. A handful of reserve clubs also expressed a wish to join, and these were accepted; indeed, the competition was over-subscribed, Hamilton Academical being accepted as members over Albion Rovers by 9 votes to 7, and Third Lanark's A side being preferred to that of Clyde. Nutt of Wishaw Thistle was the inaugural president, with Willie Maley of Celtic as vice-president.
