Ayr Athletic F.C.
Ayr Athletic Football Club was an association football club from Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland. History Foundation and first season The club was founded at a meeting in the Wallace Town Hall on 12 September 1888, by "two or three discontented ones" from Ayr F.C. This was four months after Ayr had moved "to the other side of the water" from Beresford Park to Somerset Park, and those who preferred to stay in Townhead set up the Athletic. The Athletic started operations with a 4–3 friendly defeat to Kilmarnock F.C., Kilmarnock on 29 September 1888. The club had been founded too late to enter the Scottish Cup, but did enter the Ayrshire Cup, Ayrshire, and it won its first round tie 5–3 at Galston F.C., Galston, brothers Hugh and John Aitken scoring three of the goals. Scottish Football Federation
The Scottish Football Federation was an association football competition formed in 1891 which ran for just two seasons. The proposal for a competition came from seven clubs (Falkirk, King's Park, Royal Albert, Glasgow Wanderers, Pollokshaws, Kilmarnock Athletic, and Arthurlie) which had been overlooked for the Scottish League and Scottish Football Alliance. Ayrshire Football League
Ayrshire Football League is a defunct soccer league in Scotland. Formed in 1891 by Annbank, Ayr Parkhouse, Beith, Galston, Irvine, Kilwinning Monkcastle, Mauchline, Newmilns, Saltcoats Victoria and Stevenston Thistle F.C. By 1893 the Ayrshire Football League had increased to 16 clubs. For some, this was too many and the likelihood of playing to small crowds was irksome. So 7 clubs broke away to form the Ayrshire Football Combination. Mauchline (; gd, Maghlinn) is a town and civil parish in East Ayrshire, Scotland. In the 2001 census Mauchline had a recorded population of 4,105. It is home to the National Burns Memorial. Location The town lies by the Glasgow and South Western Railway line, east-southeast of Kilmarnock and northeast of Ayr. Newmilns F
Newmilns is a village in the burgh of Newmilns and Greenholm, in East Ayrshire, Scotland. It has a population of 3,057 people (2001 census) and lies on the A71, around seven miles east of Kilmarnock and twenty-five miles southwest of Glasgow. It is situated in a valley through which the River Irvine runs and, with the neighbouring towns of Darvel and Galston, forms an area known as the Upper Irvine Valley (locally referred to as The Valley). As the name suggests, the burgh exists in two parts – Newmilns to the north of the river and Greenholm to the south. The river also divides the parishes of Loudoun and Galston, which is why the burgh, although generally referred to as ''Newmilns'', has retained both names. Kilbirnie (Gaelic: ''Cill Bhraonaigh'') is a small town of 7,280 (as of 2001) inhabitants situated in the Garnock Valley area of North Ayrshire, on the west coast of Scotland. It is around southwest of Glasgow and approximately from Paisley and from Irvine respectively. Historically, the town's main industries were flax production and weaving before iron and steelmaking took over in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The suburb of Kilbirnie in the New Zealand capital of Wellington is named after the town. Hurlford (Scottish Gaelic: ''Baile Àtha Cliath'') is a village in East Ayrshire, Scotland. It has a population of 4,968. Hurlford's former names include Whirlford and Hurdleford. The village was named Whirlford as a result of a ford crossing the River Irvine east of Hurlford Cross, near Shawhill. Dalry () is a small town in the Garnock Valley in Ayrshire, Scotland. Drakemyre is a northern suburb. History Dalry (from gd, Dail Ruighe, 'the haugh at the slope') is a small settlement on the Rye Burn. Its history has signs of early inhabitants in the area; the remains of an ancient fort, made of three concentric round walls, can be found on the summit of Carwinning Hill to the North of Dalry, west of the B784 to Largs. In 1883 excavations by John Smith of caves in the Dalry Blair estate at Cleeves Cove found evidence of prehistoric man and otter bones. Aitnock Fort at the south-west angle of Hindog Glen, was excavated by John Smith in 1901–02, it showed a possible dun occupying the summit of a cliff which rises about perpendicularly from the Rye Water. Preston North End Football Club, commonly referred to as Preston, North End or PNE, is a professional football club in Preston, Lancashire, England, who currently play in the EFL Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. Originally a cricket club, Preston has been based at Deepdale since 1875.
