Ayer Itam Dam is a dam in George Town within the Malaysian state of Penang. Located southwest of the city centre, the dam impounds the Ayer Itam River to the west of Ayer Itam. At the time of its opening in 1962, it was the largest dam in Malaya, with a capacity of . The dam supplies water to nearby suburbs such as Ayer Itam and Paya Terubong. History The dam was designed by engineer Goh Heng Chong in 1951 while he was with the George Town City Council. In the absence of his superior C. A. Collins, Goh initiated substantial planning to address the increasing water consumption in George Town. Mengkuang Dam
Mengkuang Dam is a dam in Central Seberang Perai District, Penang, Malaysia. It is the only dam situated in Seberang Perai (Penang Mainland) and the second dam built in Penang after Ayer Itam dam. It was officially opened by the former governor, Dr. Tun Awang bin Hassan in 1985. It has the water catchment area of and a gross storage capacity of , making it the largest dam in Penang, almost 10 times the capacity of the Ayer Itam Dam. Mengkuang Dam closed to the public from August 1, 2011, until July 31, 2016, for enlargement and renovation. The US$200 million enlargement includes increasing the height of the dam by and its length to the west. A new intake and spillway will also be added. Raja Uda ibni Raja Muhammad (15 December 1894 – 17 October 1976) was a Malaysian statesman during the country's struggle for independence and its early years of nationhood. He was a civil servant under the British colonial administration, and eventually rose to important administrative positions within the government. Wong Pow Nee (7 October 1911 – 31 August 2002) was a Malaysian politician and diplomat. He was Penang's first Chief Minister,Ng 2007 serving from 1957 to 1969 and Malaysia's first Ambassador to Rome.
