Axolile Notywala
Axolile Notywala is a South African politician and councillor in the City of Cape Town, where he represents Good on behalf of Rise Mzansi. Early life and education Prior to his political career, Notywala was a community activist and organiser. He is a lifelong fellow with Atlantic Fellows for Racial Equity, served as board member at the Philippi village project, and acquired leadership certificates from the University of Cape Town and Rutgers University. He founded Role Models FC, an amateur soccer club based in Khayelitsha that also focused on organising young men to be active against gender-based violence, and co-founded the Movement for Collective Action and Racial Equity, focusing on active citizenship amongst marginalised communities. Rise Mzansi (RISE) is a South African political party founded in April 2023. It is led by Songezo Zibi, a former newspaper editor and co-founder of the ''Rivonia Circle'' think tank. The party characterises their ideology as social democratic but has been defined elsewhere as neoliberal. Formation Rise Mzansi was launched on 19 April 2023 at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg. 2024 Western Cape Provincial Election
The 2024 Western Cape provincial election was held on 29 May 2024, concurrently with the 2024 South African general election, to elect the 42 members of the List of members of the 7th Western Cape Provincial Parliament, 7th Western Cape Provincial Parliament. Background The previous provincial election was won by the ruling Democratic Alliance (South Africa), Democratic Alliance (DA), but with a reduced majority of 55.45%, down from 59.38% in the 2014 election. The party lost two seats and achieved a majority of 24 seats in the legislature. The Official Opposition African National Congress (ANC) declined from 32.89% to 28.64%, and also lost two seats.
