''Axis of Eden'' is the eighth album by Today Is the Day, released on September 18, 2007 by SuperNova Records, an independent label run by Steve Austin. It is the last album to feature bassist Chris Debari and the only Today Is the Day album to feature Derek Roddy. In 2008, a film was produced based on the album, titled ''Axis of Eden – The Film'', which was released via digital download through SuperNova. The track "Free At Last" was written on piano after a fight broke out between Steve Austin and his wife. The track "Broken Promises and Dead Dreams" was written about Relapse Records. Today Is the Day is an American noise rock and Avant-garde metal, experimental metal band that originally formed in Nashville, Tennessee. The band's diverse sound combines influences from areas such as noise music, avant-garde metal, grindcore, post-hardcore, and alternative rock among other genres. It was originally launched under Harris Publications in the spring of 2000 by Tom Beaujour and Brad Tolinski, who envisioned it as an American version of ''Mojo''. Michael Shawn Crahan (born September 24, 1969), more commonly known by his stage persona "Clown", is an American musician. He is the co-founder, percussionist, and only original member remaining of the alternative metal band Slipknot (band), Slipknot, in which he is designated #6. Derek Roddy
Derek Roddy (born August 28, 1972) is an American drummer originally from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. His ability to record entire drum tracks in one or two takes earned him the nickname "One Take". Derek has gained a reputation worldwide as an extreme metal drummer. Though he may be known as the second drummer of Hate Eternal, he has also played and recorded with Nile, Malevolent Creation, Divine Empire, Council of the Fallen (where he played guitar), Today Is the Day, Traumedy and Aurora Borealis. On March 28, 2006, Roddy announced his departure from Hate Eternal. ''Pain Is a Warning'' is the ninth album by Today Is the Day, released on August 16, 2011, by Black Market Activities. Background and recording ''Pain Is a Warning'' is considered by both fans and critics as the band's most accessible work. According to frontman Steve Austin, the intent of the album was to simply be "honest and raw". In an interview with NPR, Austin described their mindset during the writing process of the album as ''"make up an idea, keep it, make the next idea and then connect it all together."'' Lyrically, the album was inspired by the 2008 financial crisis which, according to Austin in a video interview, nearly caused him and his family to go into poverty. The track "Remember to Forget" was written about Austin's mother, who at the time was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. The album's title was inspired from a conversation Austin had with his son.
