Avtandil Varsimašvili
Avtandil Varsimashvili ( ka, ავთანდილ ვარსიმაშვილი) is a Georgian theatre and film director. He is the artistic director of A. Griboedov State Academic Theatre and owner of Liberty Theatre Georgia and the director and producer of his private film company "Vars-Studio". Career The collapse of the Soviet Union and wars in Caucasus had a very bad impact on the cultural life in Georgia. Varsimashvili left Rustaveli Theatre, where he used to work for 15 years and started working at "Caucasian TV and Radio Company". There he directed the first Georgian TV series, a horror genre "The House in the Old District". In 1999 he was appointed as an artistic director of a Russian language Griboedov Theatre. After his appointment Griboedov Theatre very soon became one of the most successful theatres in Georgia. Rustaveli Theatre
Rustaveli National Theatre ( ka, რუსთაველის ეროვნული თეატრი) is the largest and one of the oldest theaters of Georgia, located in its capital Tbilisi on Rustaveli Avenue. Housed in an ornate Rococo-style edifice, the theatre was founded in 1887 and since 1921 has carried the name of Georgia's national poet Rustaveli. History and architecture The building was founded in 1887 as an "Artists' Society". Upon request of the Artists' Society, several celebrated artists were commissioned to paint frescoes on the walls and ceilings of the basement. The Rose Revolution or Revolution of Roses ( ka, ვარდების რევოლუცია, tr) was a nonviolent change of power that occurred in Georgia in November 2003. The event was brought about by widespread protests over the disputed parliamentary elections and culminated in the resignation of President Eduard Shevardnadze, which marked the end of Soviet-era leadership in the country. The revolution derives its name from the climactic moment, when demonstrators led by Mikheil Saakashvili stormed the Parliament session with red roses in hand. Mikheil Saakashvili
Mikheil "Misha" Saakashvili (born 21 December 1967) is a Georgian and Ukrainian politician and jurist. He was the third president of Georgia for two consecutive terms from 25 January 2004 to 17 November 2013. He is the founder and former chairman of Georgia's United National Movement (Georgia), United National Movement party.
