Avshar () is a village in the Ararat Municipality of the Ararat Province of Armenia. Ararat (, ) is a administrative divisions of Armenia, province (''marz (territorial entity), marz'') of Armenia. Its capital and largest city is the town of Artashat, Armenia, Artashat. The province is named after the biblical Mount Ararat. It is bordered by Turkey from the west and Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic from the south. A municipality in Armenia referred to as community ( ''hamaynk'', plural: ''hamaynkner''), is an administrative subdivision consisting of a settlement ( ''bnakavayr'') or a group of settlements ( ''bnakavayrer'') that enjoys local self-government. The settlements are classified as either towns ( ''kaghakner'', singular ''kaghak'') or villages ( ''gyugher'', singular ( ''gyugh''). The administrative centre of a community could either be an urban settlement (town) or a rural settlement (village). Two-thirds of the population are now urbanized. As of 2017, 63.6% of Armenians live in urban areas as compared to 36.4% in rural. Hovnan Derderian (born 1 December 1957) is the youngest Armenian cleric to have been elevated to the rank of archbishop. Life Born Vahram Derderian in Beirut, he studied at the Antelias Seminary and the Seminary of the Holy See in Etchmiadzin, Armenia.
