Avro Lancaster FM213
FM213 is an Avro Lancaster, one of only two airworthy examples in the world. It was built in Toronto at Victory Aircraft as construction number 3414 and rolled out in July 1945. Built as a Mark X bomber, it was no longer needed in Europe and transferred directly to storage at CFB Trenton. It was later modified for maritime reconnaissance but damaged during delivery and underwent repairs in 1953. FM213 spent the next ten years as a search and rescue aircraft over the Atlantic Ocean. She retired in November 1963 and was sold to the Royal Canadian Legion as a gate guard in Goderich, Ontario. In 1977 she was donated to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and was airlifted to Hamilton in 1979 by a Chinook helicopter. She underwent lengthy restoration before taking flight once again in September 1988, and has been flying about 50 hours a year since. The Avro Canada CF-100 Canuck (affectionately known as the "Clunk") is a Canadian twinjet interceptor/ fighter designed and produced by aircraft manufacturer Avro Canada. It has the distinction of being the only Canadian-designed fighter to enter mass production. Work commenced during October 1946 in response to a Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) specification calling for a new jet-powered interceptor/fighter aircraft suitable for long-distance patrol missions and all-weather operations. On 19 January 1950, the ''CF-100 Mark 1'' prototype, ''18101'', conducted its maiden flight, powered by a pair of Rolls-Royce Avon RA 3 turbojet engines. Avro Canada was a Canadian aircraft manufacturing company. It was founded in 1945 as an aircraft plant and within 13 years became the third-largest company in Canada, one of the largest 100 companies in the world, and directly employing over 50,000. The .303 inch bore diameter is measured between rifling lands as is the common practice in Europe which follows the traditional black powder convention. Frazer Nash was a brand of British sports car manufactured from 1922 first by Frazer Nash Limited founded by engineer Archibald Frazer-Nash. On its financial collapse in 1927 a new company, AFN Limited, was incorporated. Control of AFN passed to Harold John Aldington in 1929. Until the Second World War AFN continued to produce a small number of sports cars badged Frazer Nash incorporating a unique multi-chain transmission. Packard V-1650 Merlin
The Packard V-1650 Merlin is a version of the Rolls-Royce Merlin aircraft engine, produced under license in the United States by the Packard Motor Car Company.Gunston 1995, p. 144. The engine was licensed to expand production of the Rolls-Royce Merlin for British use. The engine also filled a gap in the U.S. at a time when similarly powered American-made engines were not available. The first V-1650s, with a one-stage supercharger, equivalent to the Merlin XX, were used in the P-40F Kittyhawk fighter and in Canadian-built Hawker Hurricanes. Later versions based on the Merlin 60 series included a more advanced two-stage supercharger for improved performance at high altitudes.
