Avraham Katznelson
Dr Avraham Katznelson ( he, אברהם קצנלסון, , 1888 – 18 May 1956), later known as Avraham Nissan, was a physician and Zionist political figure in Mandate Palestine. Avraham Shapira
Avraham Shapira ( he, אברהם אלקנה כהנא שפירא; 20 May 1914, Jerusalem – 27 September 2007) was a prominent rabbi in the Religious Zionist world. Shapira had been the head of the Rabbinical court of Jerusalem, and both a member and the head of the Supreme Rabbinic Court. He served as the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel from 1983 to 1993. Shapira was the rosh yeshiva of Mercaz haRav in Jerusalem, a position he held since Rabbi Zvi Yehuda Kook died in 1982. Biography Avraham Elkanah Shapira was born to a Jerusalemite family; his father was Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Shapira. As a child, he lived in the Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City and would pray at the Western Wall each morning. Avraham Shekhterman
Avraham Shekhterman ( he, אברהם שכטרמן, born 1910, died 7 December 1986) was an Israeli politician who served as a member of the Knesset for Gahal and Likud between 1969 and 1977. He was the older brother of Herzl Shafir, a former IDF general. Biography Born in Odessa in the Russian Empire (today in Ukraine), Shekhterman made aliyah to Mandatory Palestine in 1924. He attended high school in Tel Aviv and in 1927 he joined Betar, later becoming one of its commanders. He studied civil engineering at Ghent University, where he chaired the Jewish Students Organisation, as well as working as a Betar instructor in Antwerp. He helped establish Kfar Yavetz in 1932. In 1936 he joined the Betar faction of the Haganah, later becoming an Irgun member after it broke away from the Haganah. Avraham Ravitz
Avraham Ravitz ( he, אברהם רביץ, 13 January 1934 – 26 January 2009) was an Israeli politician and member of the Knesset for Degel HaTorah, which forms part of the United Torah Judaism alliance. Biography Avraham Ravitz was born in Tel Aviv during the Mandate era. He studied at Hebron Rabbinical College, served in the Lehi, and later in the IDF. Ravitz was married to Avigayil, with whom he had 12 children. He lived in the Bayit VeGan neighborhood of Jerusalem. In January 2009, he was hospitalized at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem due to heart problems. He died on January 26, 2009. Avraham Poraz ( he, אברהם פורז, born 9 August 1945) is an Israeli lawyer and former politician. Biography Poraz was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1945 and immigrated to Israel in 1950. He served in the Military Police Corps of the Israel Defense Forces and later studied law in the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and was certified as a lawyer. From 1983 to 1988 he was a member of the Tel Aviv Municipal Council and chairman of the City Auditing Committee. He was chairman of the Shinui Party Secretariat from 1982 to 1983 and again from 1988 to 1990. Avraham Palman ( he, אברהם פלמן) was an Israeli footballer, who played for Hapoel Tel Aviv and Israel. Biography Palman started playing football at the age of 10 within the HaNoar HaOved VeHaLomed, before moving to Hapoel Tel Aviv's youth team. In 1937 Palman joined Hapoel HaDarom Tel Aviv, a farm team of Hapoel Tel Aviv. With Hapoel HaDarom, Palman played in the 1937 cup final, where his team lost to Hapoel Tel Aviv. Avraham Oz (born May 23, 1944) is an Israeli Professor Emeritus of theatre, Hebrew and comparative literature at the University of Haifa. Avraham Offer ( he, אברהם עופר, 1922 as Avraham Hirsch – 3 January 1977) was an Israeli politician, famous for committing suicide following the eruption of a corruption scandal. Biography Ofer was born in the Chorostków shtetl in Poland (today in Ukraine) in 1922, and immigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1933. He went to High School in Jerusalem and studied in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 1937 he joined the Haganah and in 1942 he was among the founders of Kibbutz Hamadia. Avraham Ofek ( he, אברהם אופק; August 14, 1935 – January 13, 1990) was a multidisciplinary Israeli artist. Biography Avraham Ofek was born in Burgas, Bulgaria. Within two years of the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, 45000 of Bulgaria’s 50000 Jews left voluntarily for Israel, including fourteen-year-old Avraham Ofek. Avraham Nudelman
Avraham Nudelman ( he, אברהם נודלמן) was an Israeli footballer who played for Hapoel Tel Aviv and Mandatory Palestine national football team during the British Mandate era. Playing career Nudelman was born in Menashiya neighborhood of Jaffa in 1910, and started playing football with local youth club Allenby Tel Aviv, which was initially affiliated with Maccabi Tel Aviv, but its members decided to withdraw from Maccabi, due to the professional attitude towards sports and merged in 1927 with Hapoel Tel Aviv. With Hapoel, Nudelman stayed until 1938, when he retired from football in favor of his day job as a worker in Tel Aviv Harbor.
