Avodah (Yom Kippur)
The ''Avodah'' () is a poetic description of the Yom Kippur Temple service. It is recited as part of the Mussaf service of Yom Kippur, and is often considered one of the most solemn and impressive portions of the Yom Kippur prayer service. Different poems (all sharing the same structure) are recited in different communities, for example ''Amitz Koach'' among most Ashkenazi Jews and ''Atah Konanta'' among most Sephardic Jews. 'Abodah
''Avoda'', or ''Avodah'' () means serving God in Judaism and in Modern Hebrew can simply mean "work". Original meaning In its original, traditional sense, ''avodah'' was applied to sacrifices offered in the Temple in Jerusalem. The word was also used to describe the epitome of sacrificial rite, the complex and fraught main service of the High Priest of Israel on Yom Kippur (The Day of Atonement). Today it refers to a liturgical reenactment of the aforementioned ceremony which is recited during the Mussaf Amidah of Yom Kippur. Sifra () is the Midrash halakha to the Book of Leviticus. It is frequently quoted in the Talmud and the study of it followed that of the Mishnah. Like Leviticus itself, the midrash is occasionally called Torat Kohanim, and in two passages ''Sifra debbe Rav''. Authorship Maimonides, in the introduction to his '' Yad ha-Ḥazaḳah'', and others have declared that the title ''Sifra debbe Rav'' indicates Abba Arikha is the author. I.H. The Tosefta ( "supplement, addition") is a compilation of Jewish Oral Law from the late second century, the period of the Mishnah and the Jewish sages known as the '' Tannaim''. Background Jewish teachings of the Tannaitic period were characteristically transmitted orally, and consisted of short sayings presented with or without attribution, which were memorized through repetition (''Shanah'' in Hebrew) and recited in halls of study.
