Abraham Avinu Synagogue
The Abraham Avinu Synagogue (; ) is an Orthodox Jewish congregation and synagogue, located in the Jewish Quarter of Avraham Avinu in the Old City of Hebron, West Bank, Palestine. Built by Sephardic Jews led by Hakham Malkiel Ashkenazi in 1540, its domed structure represented the physical center of the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Hebron. The synagogue became the spiritual hub of the Jewish community there and a major center for the study of Kabbalah. It was restored in 1738 and enlarged in 1864; the synagogue stood empty since the 1929 Hebron massacre, was destroyed after 1948, was rebuilt in 1977 and has been open ever since. History The synagogue is mentioned by Rabbi Naftali Hertz Bachrach in his 1648 book ''Emek HaMelech''. ''Live Phish Vol. 10'' was recorded live at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Columbus, Ohio on June 22, 1994. Some Phish hobbyists advance that the concert ranks among the five best the band has ever played, although the weight of reliable authority holds otherwise. It features the band on their 1994 summer tour. The group plays an experimental version of " Mike's Song," interpolating an early version of the Mike Gordon staple "Simple" and a jam based on the bass line and melody of The Allman Brothers Band's "Midnight Rider," as well as a version of the rarely-played "Icculus." Shloime Dachs is an American Orthodox pop vocalist. He is also the founder of the eponymous Shloime Dachs Orchestra, which plays at weddings, concerts, and benefits. Biography Dachs was born in New York. He has one brother and one sister. His parents divorced when he was 13. Max Janowski
Max Janowski (1912 – April 8, 1991) was a composer of Jewish liturgical music, a conductor, choir director, and voice teacher. Born in Berlin into a musical family, Max was the son of Chayim Janowski, a choir director, and Miriam, an opera singer. As a youth, Max studied at the Klindworth-Scharwenka Conservatory (Klindworth-Scharwenka-Konservatorium) in Berlin. In 1933, he won a piano contest, which led to him becoming the head of the piano department at the Musashino Academia Musicae in Tokyo, Japan. He emigrated to the United States in 1937 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Max Janowski's choral works include the traditional Jewish prayers "Avinu Malkeinu" ("Our Father, Our King," a hymn for the High Holy Days), " Sim Shalom" ("Song of Peace," which was dedicated to the American diplomat Ralph Bunche), "Yismehu," and "ve-Shomeru". Moses Ben Avraham Avinu
Moses ben Avraham Avinu (died ca. 1733/34) was a Czech- Austrian printer and author who was a Christian convert to Judaism. His father, Jacob, was also a convert. Moses was born at Nikolsburg (now Mikulov). He became a native of Prague, and was circumcised at Amsterdam. In 1686–87, he worked for two printers of Amsterdam, but from 1690 to 1694 seems to have owned a printing establishment and to have printed several Hebrew books, including his own Judeo-German translation of Hannover's ''Yewen Mezulah''. Jacob
Jacob, later known as Israel, is a Hebrew patriarch of the Abrahamic religions. He first appears in the Torah, where he is described in the Book of Genesis as a son of Isaac and Rebecca. Accordingly, alongside his older fraternal twin brother Esau, Jacob's paternal grandparents are Abraham and Sarah and his maternal grandfather is Bethuel, whose wife is not mentioned. He is said to have bought Esau's birthright and, with his mother's help, deceived his aging father to bless him instead of Esau. Then, following a severe drought in his homeland Canaan, Jacob and his descendants migrated to neighbouring Egypt through the efforts of his son Joseph, who had become a confidant of the pharaoh. "My Father My King" is a song by Scottish post-rock band Mogwai, which was released as a single in October 2001. Over 20 minutes long, and billed as a companion piece to the album '' Rock Action'', a sticker on the cover of the single describes it as "two parts serenity and one part death metal". The song is regularly used to end Mogwai concerts – most recently, in 2015, it was the finale of all six of the band's 20th anniversary shows – and was often extended in length. Overview and recording The song is based on the melody from ''Avinu Malkeinu'', a Jewish prayer recited on Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and certain fast days, the melody of which had been taught to the band by producer Arthur Baker.
