Avinash Sarwate
Major General Avinash Kesheo Sarwate (Marathi language, Marathi: अविनाश क. सरवटे; born 2 February 1945) was an alumnus of the National Defence Academy (India) and was commissioned into the Kumaon Regiment on 2 August 1964 as a second lieutenant posted to the 11th Battalion, Kumaon Regiment. He was transferred to the 16th Battalion, Kumaon Regiment, after serving for a year and a half with 11 Kumaon. He later commanded the 5th Battalion, Kumaon Regiment, as a lieutenant colonel. Sarwate was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) the 15th Indian Division, 15th Infantry (Panther) Division of the Indian Army and subsequently Assistant Director General of Military Training (ADGMT) at the Army Headquarters (India), Army Headquarters. Before retirement, he was the Commandant, Services Selection Board (South). In March 2003 he received Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM). Kumaon Regiment
The Kumaon Regiment is one of the oldest infantry regiments of the Indian Army. The regiment traces its origins to the 18th century and has fought in every major campaign of the British Indian Army and the Indian Army, including the two world wars, and is one of the highest decorated regiments of the Indian Army. Recruitment of troops The Kumaon Regimental Centre, established at Ranikhet, recruits Kumaoni people from the Kumaon division of Uttarakhand and Himachal also Ahirs of North India. Services Selection Board
Services Selection Board (SSB) is an organization that assesses candidates for becoming officers in the Indian Armed Forces. The board evaluates the suitability of the candidate for becoming an officer using a standardized protocol of evaluation system, which constitutes intelligence tests, and personality interviews. The tests consist of oral, practical, and written tasks. An SSB is a panel of assessors, who are officers in the Indian Armed Forces as Psychologists, Group Testing Officers (G.T.O), and Interviewing Officers. The psychologists may or may not be directly coming from the armed forces. National Defence Academy (India)
The National Defence Academy (NDA) is the joint Military, defence service training institute of the Indian Armed Forces. Here, cadets of the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force train together before they go on to their respective service academies for further pre-commission training. The NDA is located in Khadakwasla, Pune, Maharashtra. It is the first tri-service academy in the world.
