__NOTOC__ Aviamilano Costruzione Aeronautiche was an Italian aircraft manufacturer established in Milan in the early 1950s. It was the original manufacturer of Stelio Frati's Falco light aircraft, although when production did not run as smoothly as Frati liked, he took the design to Aeromere instead. Aviamilano's staple product was the Scricciolo trainer built for the Aero Club d'Italia from 1959 onwards. The firm's final product was another Frati design, the F.250, rights to which were sold to SIAI-Marchetti in 1964. The firm closed in 1968 after the death of its Managing Director and the rights to the few sailplanes then in production were bought by Caproni Vizzola. Aviamilano A3
The Aviamilano A2 or A2 Standard is an Italian high performance Standard Class sailplane first flown in 1964 and returned to production in 1966. Design and development The A2 was designed in the early 1960s at the Polytechnic University of Milan by Carlo Ferrarin, his cousin Francis Ferrarin and Livio Sonzio. Their aim was to build a low cost, light weight but high performance glider. The A2 is a single-seat cantilever mid-wing monoplane, its high- aspect-ratio wing built around an all-metal torsion box and spar. It is skinned with light alloy and has significant dihedral. In plan the wing has a constant chord central section occupying about half the span, with separable straight tapered outer panels. The centre section trailing edges carries air brakes. Stelio Frati
Stelio Frati (born in Milan Italy in 1919, died 14 May 2010) was an Italian mechanical engineer and aeroplane designer. He graduated from the Politecnico of Milan as a mechanical engineer in 1943, participating in the design of the Aeronautica Lombarda AR (Assalto Radioguidato - RC attack) radio-controlled wooden cantilever monoplane, powered by a single radial engine - a flying bomb/drone, flown for the first time the same year. Aviamilano Scricciolo
The Aviamilano P.19 Scricciolo (Italian: "Wren") was a light civil trainer aircraft built in Italy in the 1960s. Design and development The Scicciolo was designed at the '' Centro Volo a Vela del Politecnico di Milano'' to compete in a competition arranged by the Aero Club d'Italia for a light civil trainer. The aircraft was evaluated by the Milan Aero Club. The CVV P.19 emerged victorious and two batches of twenty-five were produced at the Aviomilano factory. The Scricciolo was a low-wing monoplane with tailwheel undercarriage (although some were fitted with tricycle gear and designated P.19Tr). The pilot and instructor sat side by side under a large bubble canopy. Aviamilano CPV1
The Aviomilano CPV1, also known as the Arlecchino ( en, Harlequin), was an Italian high performance sailplane built in the early 1960s. Only one was built. Design and development The joint designers and builders of the CPV1 were a glider pilot, Amletto Zaneti and the owner of Aviamilano, Mario Vietri. The design emphasised high performance in both weak and strong thermals. It was built at the Polytechnic University of Milan's Centre for Flight ( it, Centro Politecnico del Volo (CPV)), hence its name. Structurally the CPV1 was a wooden aircraft, covered in a mixture of plywood and fabric. It had a long span, high aspect ratio, cantilever wing, which was straight tapered and had squared tipss. Sailplane
A glider or sailplane is a type of glider aircraft used in the leisure activity and sport of gliding (also called soaring). This unpowered aircraft can use naturally occurring currents of rising air in the atmosphere to gain altitude. Sailplanes are aerodynamically streamlined and so can fly a significant distance forward for a small decrease in altitude. In North America the term 'sailplane' is also used to describe this type of aircraft. In other parts of the English-speaking world, the word 'glider' is more common. Caproni
Caproni, also known as ''Società de Agostini e Caproni'' and ''Società Caproni e Comitti'', was an Italian aircraft manufacturer. Its main base of operations was at Taliedo, near Linate Airport, on the outskirts of Milan. Founded by Giovanni Battista "Gianni" Caproni during 1908, the company produced several successful heavy bombers during the First World War. Following the acquisition of several other aviation firms throughout the interwar period, Caproni transformed into a sizable aviation-orientated syndicate, the ''Società Italiana Caproni, Milano''.
