Auwal Musa Rafsanjani is a Nigerian civil rights activist and the Executive Director of the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre. He is the chairman, Board of Amnesty International, Nigeria. Early life and education Rafsanjani was born in Kano and got a degree in political science at the Bayero University Kano. In 1992, he became the Assistant-General Secretary of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). He got married in 2001 and gave birth to his first son in 2003. The Bayero University Kano (BUK) is a university situated in Kano, Kano State, Nigeria. It was founded in 1975, when it was renamed from Bayero University College and upgraded from university college to university. It is the first university in Kano State, North-western Nigeria. National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) formerly called National Union of Nigerian Students (NUNS) is a students' union bringing together Nigerian students both within Nigeria and across the diaspora. NUNS was founded in 1956, following structural changes in the West African Students' Union. It brought together student councils in Ife, Zaria, and Nsukka. In April 1978, Nigerian students were faced with the imposition of increased fees, and NUNS participated in a series of Campus protests across the whole of Nigeria known as the Ali Must Go protests. The Campaign for Democracy (CD) is a Nigerian civil society group that advocates for greater democracy in Nigeria. The group was first organized in the early 1990s to demand an end to the country's military dictatorship. The coalition organized demonstrations, strikes, and other civil resistance actions against the regime of Nigerian Military president Ibrahim Babangida from 1991–1993, particularly against the nullification of the 1993 Nigerian presidential election. At its peak, the coalition had more than 40 affiliated groups. Dr. Bekolari Ransome-Kuti (2 August 1940 – 10 February 2006) was a Nigerian physician known for his work as a human rights activist. Early life Ransome-Kuti was born in Abeokuta, Nigeria. Democratic Alternative is a Nigerian opposition political party. On June 3 and 4, 1994, about 200 Nigerians critical of the military politicians and collaborators met in Benin City to examine the political impasse and decide on a political plan for the country and the peoples. The conference concluded with the adoption of the Constitution and Manifesto, The Liberation Charter to inaugurate the Democratic Alternative (DA). The United Action for Democracy (UAD) was an opposition group formed in Nigeria during the military regime of General Sani Abacha in 1997, bringing together human rights, environmental rights and smaller pro-democracy organizations.
