The Autovía A-381 is a local autovía in Andalusia, Spain. It is 88 km (55 miles) long and runs from the Autopista AP-4 at Jerez de la Frontera to the Autovía A-7 at Los Barrios, near Algeciras. Built between 2004 and 2006, it runs parallel to the former C-440 road, including through Los Alcornocales Natural Park. An ''autovía'' is one of two classes of major highway in the Spain, Spanish road system similar to a British motorway or an American freeway. It is akin to the Highways in Spain, autopista, the other major highway class, but has fewer features and is never a toll road. Some distinguishing features of an ''autovía'' are that it must be divided by a median, it must have restricted access, and it cannot be crossed by other roads. While autopistas are generally new routes, ''autovías'' are normally improvements to existing roads, so they may have tighter curves and less safe accesses, often with shorter acceleration lanes. Los Barrios
Los Barrios is a small town and municipality in the south of Spain. It is part of the province of Cádiz, which in turn is part of the Andalusia region. It belongs to the Campo de Gibraltar comarca. The town's name means “the districts” or “the neighbourhoods” in English. History Although the area is known to have been inhabited since prehistoric times, the town is of relatively recent provenance, having been founded in 1704 by refugees from Gibraltar. After abandoning their homes following Gibraltar's capture by Anglo-Dutch forces during the War of the Spanish Succession, some of the inhabitants of Gibraltar took refuge around the existing hermitage of San Isidro at the confluence of the rivers Guadarranque, Guadacorte and Cañas. Los Alcornocales Natural Park (in Spanish, Parque natural de Los Alcornocales) is a natural park located in the south of Spain, in the autonomous community of Andalusia; it is shared between the Province of Cádiz and Málaga. The natural park occupies a territory spanning seventeen municipalities with a total population of about 380,000. ''Los Alcornocales'' means "the cork oak groves". Nearly all of the uninhabited land in the park is covered by Mediterranean native forest. While some of the land has been cleared for cattle ranches, much of the human activity in the park is devoted to exploitation of the forest's resources: hunting wild game, collecting wild mushrooms, and foraging for good specimens of tree heath.
