Autoslalom
Autoslalom (auto slalom, slalom) is a form of motorsport that takes place on short, temporary courses marked out on areas of sealed-surfaces such as car parks or disused airport runways. Competitors are timed to complete the course, with penalties given for diverting from the route or for touching the course markers. Each competitor starts individually and speeds are kept low to emphasise safety and to require good vehicle control. Autoslalom is a constituent discipline of the international FIA Motorsport Games. There is also a European Autoslalom Championship for international competition. In United States, slalom, along with autocross, is an optional discipline of the Sports Car Club of America's ''Solo'' series. The differences between slalom and autocross have been described as slalom being a high speed parking-lot event, whereas autocross has higher speed on longer courses although the terms may be used interchangeably. Autocross
Autocross is a form of motorsport in which competitors are timed to complete a short course using automobiles on a dirt or grass surface, excepting where sealed surfaces are used in United States. Rules vary according to the governing or sanctioning body, such as the length of the course, the number of permitted attempts, or whether competitors start the course individually at intervals or at the same time as others. In this latter form, Autocross differs from other forms of motor racing by using a system of heats or alternative timing methods for the classification rather than racing for position and declaring the first across the finish line as the winner. Autocross began in the United Kingdom in the early 1950s at an amateur level within local motor clubs using temporary courses marked on grassy fields to not cause damage to any cars. Motorkhana
Motorkhana is a low-cost form of motorsport, unique to Australia and New Zealand but similar to autotesting in the UK and Ireland and gymkhana in the US. It involves manoeuvring a car through tight tests as quickly as possible - one car at a time - on either dirt or bitumen surfaces. This usually requires sliding and spinning the car accurately while maintaining speed through the test course. Some reversing is usually included. Each test takes from 15 to 60 seconds to complete and is defined by flags. Hitting flags or going the wrong way incur time penalties which are added to the total time. A day’s competition – an event – usually includes 8 to 12 tests. Vehicle speed rarely exceeds 60 km/h (37 mph) but the tightness of the tests ensures the driver is kept very busy. Autosolo
AutoSolo in the United Kingdom is a form of motorsport based around the principles of autotesting, with the main differences being that the tests are run in a forward direction only and are usually slightly faster and more open than traditional autotests. Courses are usually larger than those for autotesting, and as the courses are laid out to run in one direction, it is common for more than one car to be on the course at the same time. Autosolos are similar to the popular American motorsport of autocross also formerly known as Solo2. Solo2 is a registered service mark of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). SCCA now refers to this sport simply as "Solo". The generic term used in the US is "autocross". Autotesting
Autotesting involves a series of tests, generally around traffic cones, to measure precision driving skill. The tests often include stopping with the front and rear wheels straddling a line, and always end stopping in a garage (usually marked out with cones). Sections of each test are usually completed in reverse. Cars involved can be standard road cars or ones specially built for autotest. Autotests can take place on either grass or hard surface. Grass Autotests are popular for club events as they are more gentle on tires and transmissions. Many Clubs run their Grass autotests without any reversing. Championship Autotests in the UK are normally on a hard surface. Each event consists of between three and six tests, with each test completed twice with the faster of the two counting for the results. Kart racing or karting is a motorsport discipline using open-wheel, four-wheeled vehicles known as go-karts or shifter karts. 2024 FIA Motorsport Games
The 2024 FIA Motorsport Games was the third edition of the FIA Motorsport Games. The event took place on 23–27 October 2024 with Valencia as a host city; the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Cheste was the main venue, hosting all of the circuit-based car categories including drifting, whilst the Aspar Circuit in Guadassuar hosted the Karting and Cross Car disciplines, and the eSports competitions and opening ceremony were held at the City of Arts and Sciences in the centre of Valencia. Drifting (motorsport)
Drifting is a driving technique where the driver purposely Understeer and oversteer, oversteers, with loss of traction, while maintaining control and driving the car through the entirety of a corner or a turn. The technique causes the rear slip angle to exceed the front slip angle to such an extent that often the front wheels are pointing in the opposite direction to the turn (e.g. car is turning left, wheels are pointed right or vice versa, also known as opposite lock or Countersteering#Other uses, counter-steering). Drifting is traditionally performed using three methods: clutch kicking (where the clutch is rapidly disengaged and re-engaged with the intention of upsetting the grip of the rear wheels), weight transfer (using techniques such as the Scandinavian flick), and employing a handbrake turn.
