Auto Shankar (web Series)
''Auto Shankar'' is an Indian crime thriller streaming television series released on ZEE5, in the setting of Madras from 1985 to 1995. The story revolves around an auto driver whose life changes when he gets involved in the local transportation of liquor and prostitution. The series stars Appani Sarath as the real-life eponymous criminal. Premise The series focuses on a gangster nicknamed "Auto Shankar". He slowly becomes more involved in his illegal trade, and spirals out of control, becoming connected to various businessmen and politicians. He is called a serial killer by police. The show ends with him being charged with the death penalty. Gowri Shankar (21 January 1954 – 27 April 1995), better known as 'Auto' Shankar, was an Indian criminal, serial killer and gangster from Tamil Nadu, who was active in Chennai throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Early and personal life Shankar was born in Kangeyanallur near Vellore. While he was in PUC, his father left the family for Odisha. In the early 1970s, he came to Chennai, first living in a Mylapore slum before moving to the fast-developing area of Thiruvanmiyur on the outskirts of South Chennai. Shankar had several wives. He married his first wife, Jagadeeswari, early in his criminal career and had 4 children with her. The marriage ended due to her suicide by self-immolation. His third wife, Lalitha, was a performer at a cabaret club he frequented. Career He survived by peddling cycle rickshaws, and later began to operate an auto rickshaw, from which he got his nickname. Manoj Paramahamsa is an Indian cinematographer, who has worked in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam film industries. Career He was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Sarath Kumar, better known by his stage name Appani Sarath (born 28 December 1992), is an Indian actor who appears in Malayalam and Tamil films. Career Sarath came into limelight after portraying the character of Appani Ravi in ''Angamaly Diaries'' directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, which gained him instant popularity. He later acted in ''Velipadinte Pusthakam'' directed by Lal Jose playing the role of Franklin, who appears in the famous ''Jimikki Kammal'' song.
