Authority in project management is the power that gives a project manager the ability to act in the name of the project sponsor executive or on behalf of the organization. French And Raven's Bases Of Power
In a notable study of power conducted by social psychologists John R. P. French and Bertram Raven in 1959, power is divided into five separate and distinct forms.
