Australian World Orchestra
The Australian World Orchestra (AWO) is a symphony orchestra based in Australia. History The Australian World Orchestra was established in 2011 by Australian conductor Alexander Briger and his sister, film maker Gabrielle Thompson. The inaugural patron of the orchestra was Sir Charles Mackerras, Briger and Thompson's uncle. The first concert in 2011, which was conducted by Briger, performed sold out in concerts in Sydney and Melbourne. The AWO also sold out in 2013 and 2015. Maestro Zubin Mehta conducted the orchestra in 2013, and returned to conduct again in 2015 when the AWO performed in three cities in India, with soprano Greta Bradman as guest soloist. Mehta is to return in 2022 to conduct the AWO in a performance of Strauss' works in Sydney and Melbourne. In 2015 the AWO brought Sir Simon Rattle to Australia to conduct the orchestra in concerts in Sydney and Melbourne with special guest mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená. The Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM) is a classical music performance training facility situated in Melbourne. History ANAM was established in 1994, as part of prime minister Paul Keating's "Creative Nation" initiative. On 23 October 2008, the Minister for the Arts, Peter Garrett, announced that ANAM would not receive any government funding in 2009. Former artistic director was appointed in 2016 and past artistic directors include composer Brett Dean and clarinettist Paul Dean. In 2021, was appointed as artistic director. The ANU School of Music is a school in the Research School of Humanities and the Arts, which forms part of the College of Arts and Social Sciences of the Australian National University. The Lucerne Festival Strings is one of Switzerland's most frequently touring chamber orchestras, which for decades was closely associated with the Lucerne School of Music, being for many years an "ensemble in residence". Riccardo Muti (; born 28 July 1941) is an Italian conductor. He is current music director of the Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini. Perth Concert Hall (Western Australia)
The Perth Concert Hall is a concert hall located in Perth, Western Australia. Owned by the City of Perth, the concert hall is the main venue of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, and also hosts a number of other events and performances. The building itself is located in the Perth central business district, adjacent to the Supreme Court Gardens and Government House. It has two façades: facing north over St Georges Terrace, and facing south over the Swan River. The concert hall was constructed on land granted to the City of Perth by the Government of Western Australia, and opened on Australia Day (26 January), 1973.
