Australian Literary Studies
''Australian Literary Studies'' is a peer-reviewed academic journal of literary studies, specialising in historical, critical, and theoretical studies of Australian literature. It was established in 1963 by Laurie Hergenhan ( University of Queensland), who edited the journal for its first forty years. It was then edited by Leigh Dale ( University of Wollongong) from 2002 to 2015; in 2010 the journal increased its publication frequency to quarterly, with two issues (May and October) focussed on Australian authors and texts, along with two "general" issues (June and November). Peer review is the evaluation of work by one or more people with similar competencies as the producers of the work ( peers). It functions as a form of self-regulation by qualified members of a profession within the relevant field. Peer review methods are used to maintain quality standards, improve performance, and provide credibility. In academia, scholarly peer review is often used to determine an academic paper's suitability for publication. Peer review can be categorized by the type of activity and by the field or profession in which the activity occurs, e.g., medical peer review. Literary Studies
Literary criticism (or literary studies) is the study, evaluation, and interpretation of literature. Modern literary criticism is often influenced by literary theory, which is the philosophical discussion of literature's goals and methods. Though the two activities are closely related, literary critics are not always, and have not always been, theorists. Whether or not literary criticism should be considered a separate field of inquiry from literary theory is a matter of some controversy. For example, the ''Johns Hopkins Guide to Literary Theory and Criticism'' draws no distinction between literary theory and literary criticism, and almost always uses the terms together to describe the same concept. Australian literature is the literature, written or literary work produced in the area or by the people of the Australia, Commonwealth of Australia and its preceding colonies. Laurie Hergenhan
Laurence Thomas Hergenhan (15 March 1931 – 21 July 2019) was an Australian literary scholar. After completing his schooling at St Bernard's College, Katoomba, Hergenhan attended the University of Sydney, where he received his MA in 1953 and Diploma of Education in 1957. He completed his PhD at Birkbeck College in London before returning to Australia in 1960 to take up a lectureship at the University of Tasmania. He was the founder and for many years the editor of ''Australian Literary Studies'' (1963) and the editor of the 1988 ''Penguin New Literary History of Australia'' and published on Xavier Herbert. He was a professor emeritus of The University of Queensland. Hergenhan was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 1994 for "service to Australian literary scholarship and to education". World Literature Today
''World Literature Today'' is an American magazine of international literature and culture, published at the University of Oklahoma. The stated goal of the magazine is to publish international essays, poetry, fiction, interviews, and book reviews for a non-academic audience. It was founded under the name ''Books Abroad'' in 1927 by Roy Temple House, a professor at the University of Oklahoma. In January 1977, the journal assumed its present name, ''World Literature Today''. History The first issue of ''World Literature Today (WLT)'' was published in 1927 and was 32 pages long. ''Australian Quarterly'' is Australia's longest running political science journal, established in 1929. Its original focus on science policy quickly broadened to encompass a wide range of political, economic, and social issues. From 1929 to mid-1997 the journal was published quarterly.
