Austin Film Critics Association Awards 2024
The 20th Austin Film Critics Association Awards, honoring the best in filmmaking for 2024 in film, 2024, were announced on January 6, 2025. The nominations were announced on December 27, 2024. Brady Corbet's epic drama ''The Brutalist'' led the nominations with ten, followed by ''Dune: Part Two'' with eight, and ''Anora'' and ''The Substance'' with seven each. Unlike previous editions of the awards were five nominees while one winner was presented for the Robert R. "Bobby" McCurdy Memorial Breakthrough Artist Award; this year, the award went to all five top nominees. ''Anora'' received the most awards with five, including Austin Film Critics Association Award for Best Film, Best Film, followed by ''Sing Sing (2023 film), Sing Sing'' with four. The Austin Film Critics Association (AFCA) is an organization of professional film critics from Austin, Texas, United States. Each year, the AFCA votes on their end-of-year awards for films released in the same calendar year. A special award, the Austin Film Award, is given each year to the best film made in Austin or by an Austin-area director. History The Austin Film Critics Association was founded in 2005 by local film critics Cole Dabney and Robert "Bobby" McCurdy while attending Bowie High School in Austin. The organization grew in its first eight years, expanding from three members in 2005 to 25 members in 2013.
