Auseklis Lazdiņš

Routledge. p. 25. . that represents a celestial body, but possibly not the same as Venus (''Rīta zvaigzne'') - the first "star" (how Latvians call it) to appear in the mornings on the east side of the sky. He is the third most popular deity in Latvian mythology after Saulė and Mēness, but is almost exclusively mentioned in folk songs, as pagan faith gave way to Christianity in Latvia in the 12th century. Name The name ''Auseklis'' stems from the root '' aus-'' ('dawn'), attached to the derivative suffix ''-eklis'', and is etymologically related to other Indo-European deities of the dawn. Lietuvēns or lietonis (in Latgale also can be called “lītūņš”, similar to Slavic Mare (folklore), mara (Russian language, Russian: ''Мара'') or Lithuanian language, Lithuanian “lauma”) is a mythological creature in Latvian folklore. According to Latvian folk epics and omens, ''lietuvēns'' is the soul of a murdered (strangled, drowned or hanged) person cursed to live in this world as long as it has been meant to live. By some beliefs, it is the soul of an unbaptized child. It attacks both people and domestic animals. Sleep paralysis is thought to be torture or strangling by a lietuvēns. When under attack, one must move the toe of the left foot to get rid of the attacker. It is also said that lietuvēns is able to penetrate into houses, even through keyholes and, aside from nightmares, can strangle the victim. The triquetra ( ; from the Latin adjective ''triquetrus'' "three-cornered") is a triangular figure composed of three interlaced arcs, or (equivalently) three overlapping '' vesicae piscis'' lens shapes. Aušrinė ("dawning", not to be confused with ''Aušra'', "dawn") is a feminine deity of the morning star (Venus) in the Lithuanian mythology. The Popular Front of Latvia () was a political organisation in Latvia in the late 1980s and early 1990s which led Latvia to its independence from the Soviet Union. It was similar to the Popular Front of Estonia and the Sąjūdis movement in Lithuania. Its newspaper was '' Atmoda'' ("Awakening", cf. Latvian National Awakening), printed in the Latvian and Russian languages during 1989-1992. The Latvian National Guard or NG (, ZS) is a part of the Military of Latvia, Latvian National Armed Forces. The National Guard is a basic land component, consisting of volunteers who perform traditional National Guard (other), national guard duties such as crisis response and support for military operations. Aloja Municipality () is a former municipality in Latvia. The municipality was formed in 2009 by Merger (politics), merging Aloja, Latvia, Aloja town with its countryside territory, Staicele town with its countryside territory, Braslava Parish and Brīvzemnieki Parish, the administrative centre being Aloja. In 2010 Aloja Parish was created from the countryside territory of Aloja town and Staicele Parish was created from the countryside territory of Staicele town. On 1 July 2021, Aloja Municipality ceased to exist and its territory was merged into Limbaži Municipality. Roberts Mūrnieks
Roberts Mūrnieks (4 July 1952 – 16 January 1991) was the first person killed by Soviet OMON during the Barricades in 1991 in Latvia. His funeral became a public protest against Soviet occupation and aggression in Latvia. Biography Mūrnieks was born on 4 July 1952 in Pelši, Preiļi district in the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic, which today is Latvia. He went to Preiļi High School No.1, but moved to Riga with his family after 5th grade. In 1991, Mūrnieks was working for the Ministry of Transport as a driver, when he was shot in the head near Vecmīlgrāvis bridge during the events of the Barricades. He died from the injury on 16 January 1991, at Riga Hospital No.1. On 17 January, the Supreme Council of Latvia expressed condolences for Mūrnieks' death, saying it was as a result of banditry by a militia unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR, and created a commission to organise his funeral.
