Aumond
Aumond is a township municipality in the Canadian province of Quebec, located within La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau Regional County Municipality. The township is named after Colonel Joseph-Ignace Aumond (1810–1879), a native of l'Assomption, who was one of the major timber merchants of the Ottawa Valley in the nineteenth century. His operations were particularly along the Gatineau, and even went as far as Lake Timiskaming. History The history of Aumond dates back to mid-nineteenth century when Joseph-Ignace Aumond began logging in the area. In 1861, the parish of Sainte-Famille d'Aumond and Aumond Township were proclaimed, and in 1877 the township municipality was established. Joseph-Ignace Aumond
Joseph-Ignace Aumond (March 21, 1810 – November 9, 1879) was a lumber merchant in Ontario, Canada. He was considered a prominent Canadian timber baron of his time. The son of Ignace Aumon and Euphrosine Robichaud, he was born in L'Assomption, Lower Canada and went to work as a store clerk in Montreal after completing his schooling. He came to Bytown to operate a store for his employer and later opened his own general store there. Around 1830, Aumond began operating in the timber business in the Ottawa Valley. He held timber cutting rights along the Madawaska, Petawawa and Gatineau Rivers. During the late 1840s, Aumond built one of the largest steam-powered sawmills in Canada at the time. He later suffered a major financial setback but continued on in the timber trade at a reduced level. In 1833, Aumond married Jane Gumming. They had eight children. La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau Regional County Municipality
La Vallée-de-la-Gatineau (, ''The Valley of the Gatineau'') is a regional county municipality in the Outaouais region of western Quebec, Canada. The seat is in Gracefield. It was incorporated on January 1, 1983 and was named for its location straddling the Gatineau River north of Low. It consists of two cities, fifteen municipalities, and five unorganized territories. The area also has two Algonquin communities, Rapid Lake in the heart of the La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve and Kitigan Zibi. Gatineau () is a provincial electoral district in the Outaouais region of Quebec, Canada, that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It includes parts of the city of Gatineau, as well as Val-des-Monts, Cantley, and La Pêche. The district was created from parts of Hull for the 1931 election. A sawmill (saw mill, saw-mill) or lumber mill is a facility where logging, logs are cut into lumber.
