Avola
Avola (; /, becoming / if preceded by vowel; ) is a city and in the province of Syracuse, Sicily (southern Italy). History The foundation of the city in an area previously inhabited by the Sicani and invaded by the Sicels in the 13th-12th centuries BC, is perhaps connected to the city of Hybla Major. Hybla was the name of a pre-Greek divinity, later identified with the Greek Aphrodite (mythology), Aphrodite. The greater Greece, Greeks colonized there in the 8th century. An important hoard of Ancient Greek gold jewellery and over 300 coins was found in the vicinity of Avola in 1914. Estimated to date between 370 and 300 BC, the extant items of ornate jewellery are now housed in the British Museum and comprise a pair of bracelets with double snake-heads, a finger-ring and an ear-ring with the figure of Eros. An ''aula regia'' ( lat. for "royal hall"), also referred to as a ''palas hall'', is a name given to the great hall in an imperial (or governor's) palace in the Ancient Roman architecture and in the derived medieval audience halls of emperors, kings or bishops as part of their palaces (for example the German ''Kaiserpfalz'' – Imperial palace). In the Middle Ages the term was also used as a synonym for the ''Pfalz'' (palace) itself. __NOTOC__ The Aula Palatina, also called Basilica of Constantine (), at Trier, Germany, is a Roman palace basilica and an early Christian structure built between AD 300 and 310 during the reigns of Constantius Chlorus and Constantine the Great. It is used as the Church of the Redeemer and owned by a congregation within the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland. The basilica contains the largest extant hall from classical antiquity (see List of ancient Greek and Roman roofs). The hall has a length of 67 m, a width of 26.05 m and a height of 33 m. Aula Al Ayoubi, born in 1973 in Damascus, is a Syrian painter and visual artist. Biography Aula Al Ayoubi studied mathematics and educational sciences at the University of Damascus. She graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts of Damascus. She is a member of the Association of Fine Arts of Syria. Works The collages of Aula Al Ayoubi mix different media. Her creations represent portraits of the most iconic women from her childhood, from Egyptian actress Faten Hamama to Lebanese singer Fairuz to the icon of Egyptian music Umm Kulthum.
