Augustus Downs Station
Augustus Downs Station is a pastoral lease that operates as a cattle station in the Gulf Country of outback Queensland. It is situated south of Burketown and south west of Normanton. The Leichhardt River and numerous tributaries flow through the property. Oscar John de Satgé acquired the property in around 1881 along with Carandotta Station after selling Coreena Station for £70,000. In 1901 the property shared a boundary with Lorraine Station, although it was not fenced and cattle from both properties grazed in each other's pastures. Sidney Kidman was a director of the Augustus Downs Pastoral Company until 1935. William Charles Angliss was also a director in the company. Normanton is an outback town and coastal Suburbs and localities (Australia), locality in the Shire of Carpentaria, Queensland, Australia. Leichhardt River
The Leichhardt River is a river in north-west Queensland, Australia. Course The source of the river is in the Selwyn Range under Rifle Creek Hill and fed by Rifle Creek approximately south of the mining town Mount Isa. It runs in a generally northerly direction almost parallel with the Diamantina Developmental Road until it reaches Mount Isa and crosses the Barkly Highway. It continues in a north easterly direction across the Gulf Country passing through Lake Moondarra past Glenroy Station then through Lake Julius. Sir Sidney Kidman (9 May 18572 September 1935), known as Sid Kidman and popularly named "the Cattle King", was an Australian pastoralist and entrepreneur who owned or co-owned large areas of land in Australia in his lifetime. Early life Sidney Kidman was born on 9 May 1857 in Adelaide, in the colony of South Australia, the third son of George Kidman (died December 1857), farmer, and his wife Elizabeth Mary, née Nunn. Kidman’s childhood home was located on Maryvale Road in Athelstone, Adelaide. William Charles Angliss
Sir William Charles Angliss (29 January 1865 – 15 June 1957) was a butcher, pastoralist, pioneering meat exporter, businessman, and politician in Melbourne, Australia. Biography He was the eldest son of William Angliss, tailor, and his wife Eliza Fiddian, born in Dudley, Worcestershire, England. He was educated at Hawkhurst, Kent, and learnt the butcher's trade as a youth, working first with an uncle in London before migrating to New York. After two and a half years in North America, he migrated to Rockhampton, Queensland in 1884. After working for a time in Brisbane and Sydney, he moved to Melbourne in 1886, where he set up a butchers shop in North Carlton. Stanbroke Pastoral Company is a company once owned by AMP Limited that was once one of the largest land owners in Australia. Established in about 1964, by 2003 the company owned 27 cattle stations in Queensland and the Northern Territory controlling some of pastoral country.
