Augusto Aníbal
Augusto Aníbal (1890–1965) was a Brazilian film actor and singer. In film he starred in over 15 pictures between 1923 and 1952 although his career appeared to develop in two different periods. He appeared in some of the hits of the 1920s making his screen debut in the Luiz de Barros film '' Augusto Anibal quer casar'' in 1923 as the central character. This would be immediately followed by '' Cavaleiro Negro'' an adventure film also directed by Barros in which he starred alongside Manuel F. Araujo. In the 1930s he concentrated on his singing and only appeared in one film in that decade, in Maridinho de Luxo released in 1938. He would later make a return in the 1940s where he was once again united with Luiz de Barros, appearing in his films again such as in the musical comedy '' Caídos do Céu'' in 1946. Luiz de Barros (September 12, 1893 – 1982) was a prominent Brazilian film director, film producer, film editor, screenwriter, cinematographer, film actor and set designer and manager who played a key role in Brazilian film production from the early silent era around 1914 through to the late 1970s. One of his trademarks was taking responsibility for nearly every department of the production of his films. He directed over 80 films between 1914 and 1977. ''Augusto Anibal quer casar'' is a 1923 Brazilian silent comedy film directed by Luiz de Barros and Vittorio Verga, based on a short story written by Carlos Verga. It is considered a lost film. It premiered in Brazil in September 1923. Brazilian researcher Antônio Leão da Silva Neto, wrote in his book ''Dicionário de filmes brasileiros: longa-metragem'', that the film is a feature film. Among the figures present in the cast stand out Augusto Annibal, Yara Jordão, named at the time as the "queen of Copacabana" and the actor Darwin, known as an " imitator of women". The reviews from the movie critics were mostly positive. The newspaper ''A Rúa'' considered the production "very funny" and "a masterpiece", however, in its September 11, 1923 issue, it criticized the promotional poster which, according to it, contained "a group of women in smaller costumes, almost naked, one of which lifts its legs over the head of a squatting man (..) who exclaims:-What a smell of Ba-Ta-Clan!. ... Adventure Film
The adventure film is a broad genre of film. Some early genre studies found it no different than the Western film or argued that adventure could encompass all Hollywood genres. Commonality was found among historians Brian Taves and Ian Cameron in that the genre required a setting that was both remote in time and space to the film audience and that it contained a positive hero who tries to make right in their world. Some critics such as Taves limit the genre to naturalistic settings, while Yvonne Tasker found that would limit films such as '' Raiders of the Lost Ark'' (1981) from the genre. Tasker found that most films in the genre featured narratives located within a fantasy world of exoticized setting, which are often driven by quests for characters seeking mythical objects or treasure hunting.
