''Augustines'' is the second studio album by the American indie rock band Augustines, released on February 3, 2014. The album received generally favourable reviews. Augustines (band)
Augustines (formerly We Are Augustines) were an American indie rock band based in Brooklyn, New York (state), New York consisting of guitarist William McCarthy, multi-instrumentalist Eric Sanderson and drummer Rob Allen. Augustines were known for their intense shows and heavy interaction with the audience. Numerous shows saw the band leave the stage to perform on the floor with the fans. History Following the break-up of their former band Pela (band), Pela, McCarthy and Sanderson decided to continue producing the songs that were originally supposed to comprise Pela's second studio album. The album, titled ''Rise Ye Sunken Ships'', was released digitally on June 6, 2011. In September 2016 they announced that their fall tour was to be their last, following the break up of the band. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". One of the primary scenes of the movement was Dunedin, where Dunedin sound, a cultural scene based around a convergence of noise pop and jangle became popular among the city's University of Otago, large student population. Rise Ye Sunken Ships
''Rise Ye Sunken Ships'' is the debut album of indie rock band Augustines, released under their original band name We Are Augustines. It debuted on iTunes on June 6, 2011 and was later released on CD on August 23, 2011. History The original concept for the album was envisioned by singer/guitarist Billy McCarthy while touring with his previous band, Pela. The title was the first idea he had. McCarthy's experiences with his mother and brother, both of whom where diagnosed schizophrenic, influenced nearly all of the writing for the album. McCarthy, Sanderson and the other two members had recorded most of the original album, but decided to scrap about 80 percent of it "because it just wasn't strong." Fights with their manager and record label along with disagreements within the band ultimately lead to the break up of Pela before the album could be finished. ''AbsolutePunk'' was a website, online community, and alternative music news source founded by Jason Tate (the most recent CEO). The website mainly focused on artists who are relatively unknown to mainstream audiences, but it was known to feature artists who have eventually achieved crossover success, including Blink-182, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, New Found Glory, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, The Gaslight Anthem, Anberlin, Thrice, All Time Low, Jack's Mannequin, Yellowcard, Paramore, Relient K, and A Day to Remember. ''The Judge'' is a 2014 American legal drama film directed by David Dobkin. The film stars Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall with Vera Farmiga, Vincent D'Onofrio, Jeremy Strong, Dax Shepard and Billy Bob Thornton in supporting roles. The film was released in the United States on October 10, 2014. Peter Katis is an American Grammy Award-winning record producer, audio engineer, mixer, and musician. Katis is best known for working with alternative and indie rock bands. He works primarily out of his own residential studio, Tarquin Studios, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Personal life Peter Katis was born in New York City in April 1966. He is the eldest son of Dr. Lauma Katis and Dr. James Katis, both psychiatrists. His brothers are Tom and Tarquin. Katis attended New Canaan Country School and Greenwich High School, both in Connecticut. He graduated from the University of Vermont having majored in Visual Arts and minored in English. Rob Moose (born 1982) is an American multi-instrumentalist, arranger, producer, conductor, and orchestrator. He primarily plays the violin, viola, and guitar. Early life and education Moose was born in 1982. He was raised in Windsor, Connecticut and learned piano and violin at The Hartt School. He attended the Loomis Chaffee School through 10th grade, before moving with his family to Moorestown, New Jersey. He completed high school at Moorestown Friends School, graduating in 2000. Moose studied violin at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. He began a master's program in American studies at Columbia University, but left to join Antony and the Johnsons on tour in 2005. Career Instrumentalist Moose met Sufjan Stevens in 2004 after being introduced to him by Shara Worden, who was then a member of Stevens' touring band.
