Augusta Spartans
The Augusta Colts were a professional indoor football team based in Augusta, Georgia. The team played their home games at the James Brown Arena. History The Colts originally began in 2006 as the Augusta Spartans of the American Indoor Football League. After a mediocre season, they played in the World Indoor Football League in 2007. During the year, the Spartans went 8–6, defeated the Osceola Ghostriders in the opening round of the playoffs, and won the World Indoor Bowl over the Columbus Lions. Wide receiver Marvin Stone was named the 2007 league MVP and received the Javan Camon Award. For the 2008, the team moved back to the renamed American Indoor Football Association and renamed themselves the Augusta Colts. In a press release, it was announced that the Colts would sit out the 2009 season, but planned to return for the 2010 season. Southern Indoor Football League
The Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) was an indoor football league based in the Southern and Eastern United States. The most recent incarnation of the league was a consolidation of an earlier league of the same name that was formed by Thom Hager along with Dan Blum, Robert Winfrey and Dan Ryan in 2009 and the American Indoor Football Association, which traces its roots to the founding of the Atlantic Indoor Football League in 2005. James Brown Arena
James Brown Arena (formerly known as Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center) was a multi-purpose complex located in Augusta, Georgia. It was managed by Spectra Experiences. The arena seated 8,000 and was renamed the James Brown Arena, in honor of musician James Brown on August 22, 2006. The James Brown Arena was the former home of the ECHL's Augusta Lynx from 1998 to 2008, the AF2's Augusta Stallions from 2000 to 2002, Augusta Spartans from 2006 to 2007, and the Southern Professional Hockey League's Augusta RiverHawks from 2010 to 2013. Columbus Lions
The Columbus Lions are a professional indoor football team based in Columbus, Georgia, and are a member of the National Arena League (NAL). The Lions were founded in 2006 as an expansion team of the World Indoor Football League (WIFL). After the WIFL went under in 2007, the Lions joined the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) where they played for two seasons. When the AIFA broke apart, the Lions joined the Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL). The Lions joined the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) in 2012 when the Southern Indoor Football League (SIFL) teams split up into two new leagues. Osceola Ghostriders
The World Indoor Football League (WIFL) was an indoor football league founded by Harry Pierce, owner of the Rome Renegades and Raleigh Rebels of the American Indoor Football League. The league was a splinter league that formed after disgruntled ownership in the AIFL, caused significant turmoil and resulted in several teams leaving the league. Both the Rebels and Renegades were to play in the league, with the Rebels to be renamed as the Carolina Bombers. However, on October 16, 2006, Pierce folded both franchises. Daytona Beach Thunder player Javan Camon, in his second year with the club, died as a result of injuries received during a game against the Columbus Lions on February 26, 2007.
