August 26 Group
The August 26 Group, short August 26, is a state owned enterprise in Namibia. It is fully owned by the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) and thus overseen by the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs. The company was established in 1998 and is headquartered in Windhoek Academia suburb. August 26 handles research, development and procurement on behalf of the defence ministry but has also spread into non-military branches like construction, tourism and agriculture. Windhoek (; ; ) is the capital and largest city of Namibia. It is located in central Namibia in the Khomas Highland plateau area, at around above sea level, almost exactly at the country's geographical centre. It was created when the country, then known as South West Africa, gained independence from apartheid South Africa in 1990. The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) is the government department responsible for the administration of military affairs and veterans affairs in Namibia. It was established as Ministry of Defence (MOD) at Namibian independence in 1990. In 2020 the portfolio of veteran affairs was added to defence after the Ministry of Veteran Affairs had been dissolved in 2015. Windhoeker Maschinenfabrik (WMF) is a Namibian defense contractor located in Windhoek, Namibia. It is operated as a subsidiary of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF). WMF designs and manufactures monocoque V-hull armoured combat vehicles. WMF is responsible for the armoured bodywork fabrication while engines, transmissions and axles are built by MAN. Kavango West Region
Kavango West is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia. Its capital and only self-governed settlement is Nkurenkuru, its governor is Sirkka Ausiku. The Region was created in 2013 when the Kavango Region was split into Kavango East and Kavango West. In the north, Kavango West borders the Cuando Cubango Province of Angola. Swakopmund ("Mouth of the Swakop River, Swakop") is a city on the coast of western Namibia, west of the Namibian capital Windhoek via the B2 road (Namibia), B2 main road.
