Chris Kyriakakis
Chris Kyriakakis (born 1963) is a professor of electrical engineering, author, and inventor of audio technologies. He is the co-inventor of the Audyssey MultEQ digital room correction system. In 2004 he co-founded Audyssey Laboratories. Biography Kyriakakis attended high school at Anatolia College in Thessaloniki, Greece. He received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Applied Science from Caltech in 1985 and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California in 1993. Kyriakakis was appointed to the EE Systems faculty at USC in 1996 where he became the founding director of the USC Immersive Audio Laboratory. He teaches audio signal processing, acoustics, and psychoacoustics at the University of Southern California. Height Loudspeaker Channels
Height channels are audio channels in surround sound multichannel audio. Height channels are located above the listening area and increase the sound field beyond the horizontal plane. Two systems that use height channels, Dolby Pro Logic IIz and DTS Neo:X, which matrixes a front left and front right height out of the front left and front right channels. According to Dolby, non-directional ambient effects such as rain and wind are mapped to the height channels. This is similar to what is mapped to rear surround channels. In 2002, Dolby premiered a master of ''We Were Soldiers'' which featured a Sonic Whole Overhead Sound soundtrack. Tomlinson M. Holman (born 1946) is an American film theorist, audio engineer, and inventor of film technologies, notably the Lucasfilm's THX sound system. Soundstage
A sound stage (also written soundstage) is a soundproof, large structure, building, or room with large doors and high ceilings, used for the production of theatrical film-making and television productions, usually located on a secured movie or television studio property. Compared to a silent stage, a sound stage is sound-proofed so that sound can be recorded along with the images. The recordings are known as ''production sound''. A silent stage is not soundproofed and is susceptible to outside noise interference; therefore, sound is not generally recorded. Because most sound in movies, other than dialogue, is added in post-production, this generally means that the main difference between the two is that sound stages are used for dialogue scenes, but silent stages are not.
