Auchenipteridae
The driftwood catfishes are catfishes of the family Auchenipteridae. The two genera of the former family Ageneiosidae have been placed here, resulting in a grouping of about 125 species in about 22 genera. These fish are found in rivers from Panama to Argentina, commonly in river flood plains. All but one species have three pairs of barbels, with the nasal barbels absent. Most species have very small adipose fins. While ''Ageneiosus inermis'', also known as the fidalgo, is known to reach in length, most are small, with some species not known at any longer than . The eggs are fertilised internally. Driftwood catfishes are nocturnal. Some of the smaller species are known to hide in logs and crevices during the day, and come out to feed at night. Some larger species can consume fruits and insects, and are probably omnivorous. Fish of this family seem to feed primarily on insects, but also eat fish, shrimp, fruit, and even filamentous algae Algae (; singular alga ) is an inform ... Catfish
Catfish (or catfishes; order Siluriformes or Nematognathi) are a diverse group of ray-finned fish. Named for their prominent barbels, which resemble a cat's whiskers, catfish range in size and behavior from the three largest species alive, the Mekong giant catfish from Southeast Asia, the wels catfish of Eurasia, and the piraíba of South America, to detritivores (species that eat dead material on the bottom), and even to a tiny parasitic species commonly called the candiru, ''Vandellia cirrhosa''. Neither the armour-plated types nor the naked types have scales. Despite their name, not all catfish have prominent barbels or "whiskers". Members of the Siluriformes order are defined by features of the skull and swimbladder. Catfish are of considerable commercial importance; many of the larger species are farmed or fished for food. Many of the smaller species, particularly the genus '' Corydoras'', are important in the aquarium hobby. Many catfish are nocturnal, [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Entomocorus
''Entomocorus'' is a genus of catfishes (order Siluriformes) of the family Auchenipteridae. Taxonomy and phylogeny ''Entomocorus'' was first described by Carl H. Eigenmann in 1917 with ''E. benjamini'' as type species by monotypy. Only a few phylogenetic diagnoses have been presented since. ''Entomocorus'' is included as the basal member in the ''Auchenipterus''-Group by Carl H. Ferraris; this group also includes '' Auchenipterus'' and the sister groups ''Epapterus'' and ''Pseudepapterus''. This group is sister to the ''Ageneiosus''-Group, which includes the genera ''Ageneiosus'' and ''Tetranematichthys''. These groups, along with the genus '' Trachelyopterus'', form the tribe Auchenipterini. However, the placement of ''Entomocorus'' is problematic due to the loss of some characteristics of that diagnose Auchenipteridae and Auchenipterini. Relationships between species of ''Entomocorus'' are unknown. Species There are currently four described species in this genus: * ''Entomoc ...
