Atz Kilcher
Attila Kuno "Atz" Kilcher (born September 2, 1947) is the oldest son of Yule F. Kilcher and Ruth Weber. He is one of the stars on the Discovery show '' Alaska: The Last Frontier'', which focuses on the Kilcher homestead established 80 years ago outside of Homer, Alaska on Kachemak Bay. Early life Atz Kilcher was born September 2, 1947. He is the 4th of 8 siblings and oldest son. His siblings include his brother, Otto, who co-stars on the Discovery Channel TV show, and 6 sisters: Wurtilla Hepp, Fay Graham, Catkin Kilcher Burton, Stellavera Kilcher, Mossy Kilcher and Sunrise Sjoeberg. Because the local elementary school was beyond walking distance for the children, the Kilcher siblings were homeschooled by their mother, Ruth, until they reached their teens. Yule F
Yule, actually Yuletide ("Yule time") is a festival observed by the historical Germanic peoples, later undergoing Christianised reformulation resulting in the now better-known Christmastide. The earliest references to Yule are by way of indigenous Germanic month names ' (Before Yule) or ' and ' (After Yule). Homer, Alaska
Homer ( Dena'ina: ''Tuggeght'') is a city in Kenai Peninsula Borough in the U.S. state of Alaska. It is southwest of Anchorage. According to the 2020 Census, the population is 5,522, up from 5,003 in 2010. Long known as the " Halibut Fishing Capital of the World", Homer is also nicknamed "the end of the road", and more recently, "the cosmic hamlet by the sea". Geography Homer is located at 59°38'35" North, 151°31'33" West (59.643059, −151.525900). The only road into Homer is the Sterling Highway. Homer is on the shore of Kachemak Bay on the southwest side of the Kenai Peninsula. Its distinguishing feature is the Homer Spit, a narrow long gravel bar that extends into the bay, on which is located the Homer Harbor. Kachemak Bay
Kachemak Bay ( Dena'ina: ''Tika Kaq’'') is a 40-mi-long (64 km) arm of Cook Inlet in the U.S. state of Alaska, located on the southwest side of the Kenai Peninsula. The communities of Homer, Halibut Cove, Seldovia, Nanwalek, Port Graham, and Kachemak City are on the bay as well as three Old Believer settlements in the Fox River area, Voznesenka, Kachemak Selo, and Razdolna. One interpretation of the word "Kachemak" is "Smokey Bay" which supposedly is from an Alutiiq word describing the smoldering coal seams that used to fill the bay with smoke. Mossy Kilcher
Mairiis Kilcher, better known as Mossy Kilcher, is an Alaskan singer-songwriter, homesteader, and ornithologist. Biography Mairiis Kilcher was born near Homer, Alaska. She is the daughter of Yule F. Kilcher and sister of Atz Kilcher. Through Atz, she is the paternal aunt of singer-songwriter Jewel. As a teenager, her family took a trip to Switzerland where she was introduced to the music of Andrés Segovia. This sparked an interest in guitar. She attended Reed College, where she was inspired by Lloyd J. Reynolds. In 1977, she released her only album to date, '' Northwind Calling'', under the married name Mossy Davidson. It was not a commercial success, but earned a cult reputation among folk enthusiasts. Jewel (singer)
Jewel Kilcher (born May 23, 1974) is an American singer-songwriter, actress, and author. She has received four Grammy Award nominations and, as of 2021, has sold over 30 million albums worldwide. Jewel was raised near Homer, Alaska, where she grew up singing and yodeling as a duo with her father, a local musician. At age fifteen, she received a partial scholarship at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, where she studied operatic voice.
