Attorney General (Ethiopia)
The Attorney General of Ethiopia () is a law official that ensures law and prosecutes criminal investigation under Council of Ministers Proclamation No.943/2016. It was established in 2016 with Getachew Ambaye serving as the first attorney general from 2016 to 2018. The Attorney General is appointed by the House of Peoples' Representatives (HPR) and the deputy Attorney General is appointed by the Prime Minister. The current Attorney General is Gedeon Timotheos since 2 November 2021. Overview The Attorney General position was created in 2015 when the Ministry of Justice transformed into the Federal Attorney General Office regulated by the Council of Ministers' Proclamation No.260/2012. Gedion Timotheos (Amharic: ጌድዮን ቲሞጢዎስ) is an Ethiopian politician who is serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs since 18 October 2024 and Attorney General from 2 November 2021. He has served as Minister of Justice from 6 October 2021 until Hanna Arayaselassie succeeding his position in 2024, Timotheos previously was the Ethiopian Attorney General before the position again was renamed to the Minister of Justice. The House of Peoples' Representatives is the lower house of the Ethiopian Federal Parliamentary Assembly. Located in the capital Addis Ababa, the House has 547 members. All are elected in theory for five-year term in single-seat constituencies. The proceedings in the chamber are led by Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives. Getachew Ambaye
Getachew Ambaye (Amharic: ጌታቸው አምባዬ) is an Ethiopian politician who had served with various major governmental positions, notably, the Minister of Justice (2013–2016) and attorney general (2016–2018). The Ministry of Justice of Ethiopia () is the government department that has the authority of federal prosecution and had possessed executive and judicial powers. The ministry was a part of the federal branch of the government, and prosecuted cases that fell within the federal jurisdiction. 1995 Ethiopian General Election
General elections were held in Ethiopia on 7 and 18 May 1995 for seats in its Council of People's Representatives; elections in the Afar Region, Afar, Somali Region, Somali, and Harari Regions were delayed until 28 June to assign experienced personnel who could solve possible conflicts and irregularities.
