Atrophacanthus Japonicus
''Atrophacanthus'' is a monospecific genus of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Triacanthodidae, the spikefishes. The only species in the genus is ''Atrophacanthus japonicus'', the upward-mouth spikefish, which is found in the Indo-West Pacific region. Taxonomy ''Atrophacanthus'' was first proposed as a monospecific genus in 1950 by the British ichthyologist Alec Fraser-Brunner when he described ''Atrophacanthus danae'', its type species by monotypy. Fraser-Brenner's ''A. danae'' had its type locality given as the Sulawesi Sea. ''A. danae'' was subsequently shown to be a synonym of ''Tydemania japonica'' which had been described in 1941 by the Japanese ichthyologist Toshiji Kamohara with its type locality given as Shikoku in the Kōchi Prefecture, Japan. Alec Frederick Fraser-Brunner
Alec Frederick Fraser-Brunner (6 April 1906 – 17 Sept 1986) was a British ichthyologist. His career included work with the Colonial Office, the Food and Agriculture Organization, and as the curator of the Van Kleef Aquarium in Singapore and the aquarium at Edinburgh Zoo. Amongst his written works is ''Cussons Book of Tropical Fishes'', published as result of Manchester industrialist Alexander Tom Cussons' interest in tropical fish. Cussons had a keen interest in orchids. The hot-houses in which he grew them proved to be well-suited to tropical fish aquariums. ''Macrorhamphosodes'', the trumpetsnouts, is a genus of marine ray-finned fishes belonging to the family Triacanthodidae, the spikefishes. The fishes in this genus are found in the deep waters of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Taxonomy ''Macrorhamphosodes'' was first proposed as a monospecific genus in 1934 by the American zoologist Henry Weed Fowler with ''Macrorhamphosodes platycheilus'' designated as its type species, and its only species.
