Atoroba Peni Rikito is the great-grandson of King Gbudwe who became the King of Azande on 9 February 2022. Ascension Atoroba Peni Rikito became King of the Azande Kingdom. Azande Kingdom
The Zande, also known as the Azande Kingdom is a kingdom predominantly dominated by the Zande people or tribe. It is located in the area of Western Equatoria State of South Sudan. Its royal seat or capital is based in Yambio which is also the state capital of Western Equatoria State. History Reliable sources cite that the Azande Kingdom was founded approximately 300 years ago. Its not clear who was the first king of the Azande Kingdom but one of the prominent rulers of the kingdom was King Gbudwe who ruled the kingdom from 1870 to 1905. King Gbudwe was killed during the British patrol led by Major Boulnois in February 1905 after resisting the British administration at the time. The current king of the Azande Kingdom is Atoroba Peni Rikito who was crowned on 9 February 2022 and is the great-grandson of Gbudwe. Gbudwe
Gbudwe Bazingbi (c.1835, also called Yambio) was the Azande King in South Sudan from 1870–1905. His real name was Mbio, which means "a kind of small antelope", but he renamed himself "Gbudwe", also written as Gbudue, meaning "to tear out a man's intestines". Description Edward Evan Evans-Pritchard quotes a description of King Gbudwe of the Azande: "King Gbudwe was a short man, though not excessively short... he was stout also... His breasts protruded like those of a woman... His eyes were little protruding eyes, and they sparkled like stars. When he looked at a man in anger they were terrible; then they went grey like ashes... When he approached people from afar you could not mistake King Gbudwe. He was a marvelous prince." The Azande are an ethnicity, ethnic group in Central Africa speaking the Zande languages (whose classification is uncertain).
