Beverly Atlee Bunn
Beverly Atlee Cleary (née Bunn; April 12, 1916March 25, 2021) was an American writer of children's and young adult fiction. One of America's most successful authors, 91 million copies of her books have been sold worldwide since her first book was published in 1950. Some of her best known characters are Ramona Quimby and Beezus Quimby, Henry Huggins and his dog Ribsy, and Ralph S. Mouse. The majority of Cleary's books are set in the Grant Park neighborhood of northeast Portland, Oregon, where she was raised, and she has been credited as one of the first authors of children's literature to figure emotional realism in the narratives of her characters, often children in middle-class families. Her first children's book was '' Henry Huggins'' after a question from a kid when Cleary was a librarian. Charlton Atlee Hammaker (born January 24, 1958) is a former Major League Baseball left-handed pitcher who played the majority of his career for the San Francisco Giants (1982–1990). He also played for the Kansas City Royals, San Diego Padres, and Chicago White Sox. During his twelve-year career, he won 59 games, lost 67 games and netted five saves. Terra is the name used by three fictional superheroines published by DC Comics. The first Terra, Tara Markov, is an antiheroine eventually revealed to actually be a supervillainess working as a double agent. Jacob Atlee Beidler (November 2, 1852 – September 13, 1912) was an American businessman and politician who served three terms as a U.S. Representative from Ohio from 1901 to 1907. Biography Born in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, Beidler attended the country schools, and Locke's Seminary, Norristown, Pennsylvania. He moved to Ohio and settled in Willoughby in Lake County in 1873. He engaged in business as a coal dealer and later as an operator. George Atlee Goodling (September 26, 1896 – October 17, 1982) was a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Biography George Atlee Goodling was born in Loganville, Pennsylvania. During the First World War he served as a seaman, second class in the United States Navy from March 1918 to December 1918. Edwin Atlee Barber (August 13, 1851 – December 12, 1916) was an American archaeologist and author. Biography Edwin Atlee Barber was born in Baltimore, Maryland to William Edwin Barber and Anne Eliza Townsend. He entered Lafayette College in 1869 but left before graduating to assume a position as an assistant naturalist for the Hayden Survey. He developed an interest in decorated pottery and rapidly became an authority in Pueblo ceramic art. David Atlee Phillips (October 31, 1922 – July 7, 1988) was a Central Intelligence Agency officer of 25 years and a recipient of the Career Intelligence Medal. Phillips rose to become the CIA's chief of operations for the Western hemisphere. In 1975 he founded the Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO), an alumni association comprising intelligence officers from all services. Atlee Pomerene (December 6, 1863November 12, 1937) was an American Democratic Party politician from Ohio. He represented Ohio in the United States Senate from 1911 until 1923. Biography Pomerene was born on December 6, 1863, in Berlin, Holmes County, Ohio, and his spouse was Mary Bockrus Pomerene. He studied at Princeton University and the University of Cincinnati Law School. Career He began practicing law in Canton, Ohio, in 1886. After serving in a variety of city, county, and state positions as solicitor and prosecutor, Pomerene was elected the 31st lieutenant governor of Ohio in 1910. He briefly served in the post in early 1911 before being elected by the State Legislature to the U.S. Senate.
