Attu (, ) is an island in the Near Islands (part of the Aleutian Islands chain). It is one of the westernmost points of the U.S. state of Alaska. The island became uninhabited in 2010, making it the largest uninhabited island that is part of the United States politically. Jacob Netsvetov (Russian: Яков (Иаков) Егорович Нецветов), Enlightener of Alaska, was an Alaskan Creole from the Aleutian Islands who became a priest of the Orthodox Church and continued the missionary work of Innocent for Alaska Natives. His feast day is celebrated on July 26, the day of his death. Early life Netsvetov was born Jacob Netsvetov in 1802, on Atka Island, part of the Aleutian Island chain in Alaska. He was the eldest child of four children that survived infancy, born to Yegor Vasil'evich Netsvetov from Tobolsk, Russia, and Maria Alekscevna, an Aleut from Atka Island. His father was a manager for the Russian-American Company. His surviving siblings were, in order of age, Osip (Joseph), Elena, and Antony. Education and ordination Netsvetov enrolled in the Irkutsk Theological Seminary at an early age. Atka B-24D Liberator
The Atka B-24D Liberator is a derelict bomber on Atka Island in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. The Consolidated B-24D Liberator was deliberately crash-landed on the island on 9 December 1942, and is one of only eight surviving D-model Liberators (including partial and derelict aircraft). The aircraft, serial no. ''40-2367'', was built in 1941, and was serving on weather reconnaissance duty when it was prevented from landing at any nearby airfields due to poor weather conditions. The only injury resulting from the crash was a fractured collarbone sustained by Brigadier General William E. Lynd. The wreck site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and was designated as part of the World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument in 2008, redesignated Aleutian Islands World War II National Monument in 2019.
